I Beat Persona 3 Reload. Now, that is how you do a true remake. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Demon's Souls remake, because it's gorgeous and runs at 60fps. But cosmetics aside, it's mostly the same game. P3R not only overhauls the visuals (surpassing even P5R), but it introduces many little touches that significantly add to the experience, while staying faithful to the core game.

The original title was my least my favorite in the franchise, despite its stellar premise. Maybe it was the heavily dated level design and production values, or the lack of voice acting during social link scenes. It just didn't resonate with me. The game was a "one and done" experience. Speaking of social links, not only do they now have fantastic VO, which adds a lot of depth, but the new linked quests make the bonds even stronger. The icing on the cake is easily the added social events and activities, like chilling with Yukari and bonding over movies on the couch....or taking care of Koromaru (I would get a Koromaru simulator if it existed lol). I never felt that connected to the characters in the original release. But by the end of P3R, I had major feels!

On a combat front, the theurgy attacks are DOPE! You'll have to experience them to see why they are so badass, especially as they evolve. There are also features taken from the newer games to make things just flow better, while looking flashy AF.

Let's talk about Tarturus. The new Monad doors offer some of the coolest battles and rewards. As for the 200+ floors in this tower, it's broken up into about 5 or 6 sections, but now with striking visual diversity, to at least keep things fresh (an issue I had with the original).

I can go on and on....but....basically, this is the persona 3 you've always wanted: it's gorgeous (those reflections, fire, particle effects and smoke :dreamy: ), has surprisingly great VO with its main characters, and most importantly - it's fun to play, while getting swept away with its story (easily the best in the franchise, thanks to the characters having more emotional weight).

Sorry p4g and p5r, but p3r is my new favorite in the franchise.

10/10

I will eventually platinum. I got most of the achievements. Oh, gameplay time was 66 hours and I registered 72% of the personas. I maxed out all social links, so it's doable in a single run (the hacker in the club makes things easier - you'll see).
