The great thing about Rebirth is that they really succeeded at making the combat feel smooth and responsive in the 30 FPS graphics mode. Many other action focused games feel sluggish and unresponsive at that same framerate.

IMO there's little reason to play in performance mode given the cutbacks.

Just got to the 2nd region in Rebirth. Some of these vistas are simply incredible looking. As long as you're not looking at the textures up close, the environments are stunning (in graphics mode ofc. Performance mode is a mess).

Going around and climbing/activating towers. Just what I want from a FF7 remake....:ben:

So im around 3 and a half hours into Rebirth. A couple of quick thoughts

- The presentation as a whole is quite impressive. The cinematic nature of some of the set pieces and combat encounters is Square at the top of their game
- The graphics themselves can be a mixed bag. Sometimes the game looks amazing, other times it looks pretty muddy. The open world so far is quite detailed and sharp overall, but I don't think the game as a whole is as impressive as Remake was.
- Combat is still really fast and fluid. And there seems to be more features to make it more dynamic and varied.
- The FF style dialogue can be pretty cheesy and hard to take seriously. Maybe its because im coming off of Infinite Wealth and its very grounded characters and storylines but there have been several parts in rebirth where my literal reaction was something like 'people don't talk like this IRL :|'
- I heard a lot of hype regarding the card game, Queen's Blood, but im not really feeling it so far.

Quote from: David P on March 02, 2024, 02:05:24 AMEvery battle devolve into a puzzle essentially. It sucks and the bloated nature of Gwent removed the fast paced fun of the original mini game in the W3 if you ask me. Not that I minded having a map and stuff to do in Thronebreaker other than Gwent, I mean Gwent itself is needlessly bloated with dumb gimmick mechanics that made it not fun and feel more like a puzzle.

Idk. I didn't get that vibe at all. I played a bunch of Thronebreaker and also the MP Gwent, and they were both exactly the type of evolution I wanted from W3 Gwent.

Quote from: David P on March 01, 2024, 11:18:42 PMFuck no. Puzzle game pretending to be a RPG card game. lol Gwent in W3 was waaay better.

Lol what? The vast majority of the game is just gwent with more features. The 'puzzle' battles are a very small part of it and completely optional

Yeah but do we really want Helldivers 2 to be the standard for games going forward. I don't want gaming to just become a collection of co-op shooters.

I think more studios need to look at Focus and replicate how their games are being developed. Despite being made by smaller studios with smaller budgets, they still manage to put out somewhat ambitious SP games like Plague Tale, Greedfall, and most recently Banishers.
