  1. Relax, Navi is rumoured to have insane performance gains in real performance to tflops which is are just a theoretical numbers. It's possible a 4tflop Lockhart will outperform the 6tflop GPU in X. Rumour is a 30 CU Navi outperforms a Vega with double the CUs.
  2. Not sure people say this is a HBM heatsink patent from Sony.
  3. The DDR4/HBM rumour sounds like madness but it makes perfect sense pricewise, price reduction wise long trm, and lower power consumption is a huge plus for thermals. Also GPU has access to 8 gigs of super fast RAM without the CPU eating into the bandwidth directly. Its not comparable to the XBox setup, on One all the RAM was bandwidth starved had to run through the EDRAM from what I know for the GPU. It's a very interesting setup with potential, how the other 12 gigs will be handled god knows. But assuming devs don't even see it as split memory means it's worked out fai
  4. Sony's plan to give us a middle system is sound. I don't want to choose between a guaranteed discless 1080p tard pack and a premium system which would be the only realistic choice. But if that memory setup better make them price reduce that thing fast, no way 399 flies for three years straight this gen. Price is both key, but also highly variable. The X is the same price as Pro no matter the power difference because it's DOA at 499. PC ports day 1, XCloud and possibly Switch are going to hit XBox hardware sales outside the US big time. They're going to lose a segment of
  5. Well ironically a revised small SAD could work for streaming.
  6. Lockhart is either a streambox or 1080p machine. It can't be both, it's one of the other. It either plays natively or streams. The insiders are all over the place with this thing, they probably have no clue what it is. Brad Sams showed his complete technical inept when he said it would run stuff at 4K 60. Even though he leaked it. Also where is the XCloud TV solution?
  7. DF. Also this thing, obviously just a rumour. Lockhart a pure streaming box outside some games?

  9. This looks like some busted PS3 port circa 2006.
  10. I wouldn't be surprised if PS4 BC tech analysis would be the biggest tech spec that people view. Can the thing so anything past faster loading times and a boost mode? I doubt it. But people I think expect their old games to be locked at target FPS. The value of old games being released from technical shackles would be amazing. Bloodborne with insta loading and locked framerate. At the start of a gen BC is a huge value proposition.
  11. Spec circle jerk aside, it seems people are more than satisfied with what we are getting with PS5. 10-12 is irrelevant, 2 tflops don't change shit in the grand scheme of things. Now the next thing to matter if they can nail 399, and a March release. If they do I think the vast majority of SW will easily buy it at launch, and that would be a huge win, and gamers in general. And of course some games, but I think better multiplats can carry next gen alone for a certain period of time. It's the next PlayStation. It's a safe bet.
  12. So once again 10-12tflops according to them basically. Stadia tflops.
  13. So people did the math and interpolated, the DDR4/HBM2 rumour would put PS5 at 10.8 tflops.
  14. This rumour breaks the mold and makes some sense. It also appeared right before the PS5 reveal and only addresses the RAM instead of fairy details like price being locked which a dev wouldn't know. If fake that's a lot of creativity on the part of the dude that wrote all that. Commendable. Also note devs see 20 gigs and the system manages all that memory shit itself.
  15. Also Carlos wants a 500-700 dollar card shoved into next gen in this thread. How surreal is that? Youre gonna take your 11tflop Navi lite, and you're going to fucking love it. Also apparently for optimal performance with no bottlenecks you need 45-50 gbps of bandwidth per AMD teraflop. Thing is bound to be bandwidth starved no matter what. Are Sony also willing to pay 2x+ for the amount they paid for PS4 RAM? I'm not so sure tbh. XBox One style solution or not especially when we know they considered something similar before.
  16. Bullshit or not, not specifying the RAM type is suspect. I mean it's not like they have to give clockspeeds or RAM amount, and it's no secret to MS what they will use. Plus they both got to hit at least 16 gigs usable, anything less is a joke. Also there is nothing crazy if the RAM is cheap, works, and HBM3 is on the way and cheaper. Plus HBM2 is much smaller than GDDR6 with lesss power draw. If they got a choice between RAM that's much more expensive I think they will take the hit. Anyways with Dev kits out specs are going to come out soon. Most realistically MS and Son
  17. Also hitting some bottlenecks, and compromises makes a lot more sense if they can get the price right. For 95% of people "good enough" is just fine if it comes in at good price, has BC, can play respectable versions of next gen games and more importantly has exclusives. It's going to outperform Lockhart, and probably come in cheaper than Anaconda. That's a good position to be. Not that I think this matters. The goal is to keep PS dudes and make go them to for PS5, not go for XBox dudes. I can't see a pitch of changing ecosystems work. Outside of forum people choose an ecosystem the
  18. Well what if they really don't even have a choice if they want to hit the right price. Cerny said they were going for a 128 bit bus and buffer RAM or whatever to bring the bandwidth up, like MS was with the One with the PS4. Also note the conservative Pro RAM speed, and a ghetto RAM for OS offload solution. Nintendo also got their Maxwell GPU on the cheap because Nvidia didn't know where to sell those chips from their orders. I read Ryzen would need at least 50gbps from the main fast RAM, maybe offloading that shit to the cheap RAM is the best way to preserve performanc
  19. 16 gigs of GDDR6 apparently would cost them over twice what they paid at launch for 8 gigs of GDDR5 at PS4 launch. Matt that knows the specs said he expects 399. Memory is the most expensive part, so maybe the RAM.setup is a give away on price. Also Benji said analysts in the sales sphere also expect 399. Seems like they found the most creative work around that they could. Take it or leave it. 399 is proven to work, 499 could work, but if I was Sony I wouldn't want to take the risk and test in practice. They have to cut on SOMETHING. Is DDR4 that cheap?
  20. Well no shit. It could be fake, but it's a bit weird they didn't mention memory don't you think? So they are probably doing something there to cut costs. GameCube also had a fast and slow RAM setup and did just fine. I don't think we can just sum up the RAM bandwidth from both pools, and say this will be the bandwidth. Non of us actually know how such a setup would perform. Seems cheaper than 16 gigs of GDDR6 by the way, and 16 would yield them a 256 bit bus. So maybe this will be cheaper and perform better. It actually makes perfect sense since the Japanese
  21. Sounds like 399 :) There were going to be compromises le be real.
  22. Speaking of SSDs they will be 6gbps at the absolute worst. So filling up 20 gigs of RAM at worst will take 3 seconds and that's assuming nothing is loaded into the RAM. It will do miraculous things for open world asset streaming
  23. Also "exclusives" coming to PC is going to hurt the brand, doubly so if Switch is in the cards. The lack of exclusives is not lost on gamers, even if they are not on PS5 directly.
