Real talk, there's no excuse for Halo being like it was. I hyped the shit out of that game as the next coming... and while I still think the gameplay looks good... I was expecting more visually. I wasn't happy with Phil that day let me tell you

With 100M consoles.. a lot becomes feasible. You put in the work to tone down the game and make changes where necessary. Developers are literally busy coding and updating their engines for next gen baseline anyway... they have a lot of work ahead of them, and in the meantime they might as well release cross gen versions of games that are possible on both.

Visually the game could be toned down and released on PS4. The world hopping shit is impressive, but it's all on-rails... so I need to see more to be convinced. Quickly loading 7 second on rails flyby's of different worlds isn't THAT amazing.

I don't think he did. I think he inherited a platform that was all about TV and media... and had to make it about games again. I think he's had long enough now that we need to start seeing some good change and progress... for sure. I think picking up Bethesda and their studios gives them a solid first party. I think Playground Games is an amazing studio, and I'm excited to see Perfect Dark from the Initiative. Again, I'm not saying he hasn't had ample time to get some games in order, but I think they're going to have a solid lineup of games once they start coming out

Well, the ownage comes from the fact that you guys were convinced that Sony would cut last gen off and games like MM and Horizon 2 would be amazing PS5 exclusives pushing boundaries. Turns out that Sony had other ideas all along... and it also turns out that we were right that just because they're supporting last gen with games doesn't mean they can't make games that push boundaries. As I said before... it's LITERALLY all about how much it's worth... and I said 106M PS4's is too hard to ignore.

Yea, ok so the option is there, but I guess it's just an unoptimized game/engine. I thought that might be the issue, cause I know that had a major performance impact in Yakuza 0.

I just checked and I was right about it having a supersampled AA mode. If you have the AA set to "SSAA" it's supersampling, which means it's rendering 4x the pixels.. so 4K effectively. I don't know if that AA setting is tied to "maxed" though. If you're on FXAA or SMAA, then you're running 1080p.

IIRC "maxed out" has AA enabled, which in that engine is essentially 4x supersampling. So if you're running 1080p, with AA maxed, it's like running native 4K. You could probably leave everything maxed, and just change the AA setting to FXAA or SMAA and performance will be much better. I might be misremembering though.
