Sure... except you already got a reason why SIM games are like that. You can smash into that same wall... show the scratches, and have the car completely fucked so it doesn't run. Same end output. As long as the simulated damage is realistic, that's mostly what SIM enthusiasts care about... because they understand the reality of licensing. And nobody would play these games if they didn't have real world cars with real world performance data and realistic physics. You simply don't get that data, if you don't have the license from the manufacturer.

Devs can't make good looking realistic models of cars without getting the scan data from the manufacturers. If they tried to build their own cars, they'd look like shit in comparison. These games aren't destruction derby... most actual people into sims don't give a shit about the cosmetic damage so much as simulated damage, which they can do well enough and will be great next gen.
