These games typically have big modding communities.. there's a lot of people who would rather just buy it outright on Steam and be able to mod it.

Yea, there was a lot of negative word of mouth. The game isn't what a lot of people expected, so there's that.. but it also doesn't help things that there was a controversy about AMD blocking Nvidia's DLSS tech, which definitely alienates a chunk of people. The game being "heavy" and having performance issues made that omission even more unacceptable for players. I was expecting far more than what the concurrent numbers were on Steam. It's not doing as well as I expected either. The Steam concurrent players was WAY less than what I expected it to be. Only around 280K and I was expecting 750K - 1M concurrent. The scores, and negative press as well as the game lacking DLSS support really hurt it. However, this game will continue to sell well over time as things get added I'm sure.

The medium has evolved enough already to support completely digital consoles. There's still a lot of people who buy physical and "fight the good fight" but that's because they aren't currently being forced to. If the industry decides to put physical out of it's misery, then the vast majority of those people who still buy physical, will bite the bullet and buy it digitally. The only people who would really cry about it are the small vocal group of physical preservationists. The industry would roll over to all digital and it would be the easiest thing ever.. it's alread
