Yea I have to agree with that... but 4-5 years is a long time.  Sony's already quite clearly gearing up for this with the PS5 digital and the rumors of the drive add-on for it as well as the potential PS5 Pro/Slim.

But yea, games are obviously many times larger than your typical movie stream.. but with already half, or more than half, of the market completely embracing digital... it's not hard to see that once the dominos like this start falling, it all happens quickly.  We also have publishers releasing digital only versions of upcoming games, like Alan Wake 2 for example.

I think by the PS6/XS2 generation it goes full digital.  Seems logical.

I think it makes a lot of sense to take out optical drives in future devices and have them optional. Any cost cutting approaches like that I'm all for. For eg my XSX is purely a GP device so I've paid for the optical drive for no reason essentially.

I think Alan Wake is a bit of an example of how gaming maybe isn't ready for it. There was a decent amount of backlash against their decision to not have physical, to the degree that publishers actually reached out and offered to publish the physical version for them (i think it was 505 Games in this case). Other than the whole file size issue with games and not everyone everywhere having access to fast or unlimited internet I also think there is more of a collectors community in gaming.

  2. Taste changes, hobbies change and how one wants to spend free time as it becomes more limited changes too. I game a fraction of what I use to but it will prob be something I always do on and off but it's no where near close to one of my favourite hobbies now.

Also as we grow older the wonder and awe of games has greatly lessened. The current gaming climate would've blown my mind as a child. Imagine being a kid and having GP, PS Extra, these insane production levels, epic scales, etc. I was playing like 2/3 games a year and digging out every second of content out of them.

Just play what hits and don't play what you're not enjoying, so much other stuff to do that it's no biggie. It's exciting though when a game really hits or surprises you again, usually only happens once or twice a year but worth it for when it does.

  3. Thought the discord was pretty good and had some cool people there. I just struggle with keeping up on discord chats especially if you aren't online often. Probably more a factor of me growing up with forums and just being more use to that form of online interaction.

I mean it's basically just setting up the continuation from the first game... pretty much all stuff you likely already know about.  No big spoilers IMO.

Alright cool, thanks, i'll check it out.

EDIT: Cool trailer! First game had arguably my fav Spiderman story outside of Spiderverse and this looks like it could even top it.

I'm still not a giant fan of the new look for Peter Parker though, honestly looks like a young Nathan Drake to me.
