Not quite, which isn't saying much because DS level of success and dominance was just insane. Also the landscape in Japan is different now as opposed to back then. Mobile has taken a massive portion of the gaming market, nothing will come close to DS again.

Interested to see what kind of numbers KH3 pulls but outside of a MHW sequel there really isn't too much that PS4 has that can be such a gigantic hit in Japan, which is fine, they shifted priorities to other regions which has been a massive success for them also. In Japan you need portability, that's more important than anything. Outside of that conversation though It is amazing how well the Switch is doing. It's install base is still small in hindsight and it already has the best selling entries in multiple franchises.

Yeah I've been reading the weird problems like no ability to change characters and also matchmaking just totally ignoring rules you have set if it can't find any matches and putting you in matches with totally different rule sets. This is the one game where online really is huge. I know Smash is a couch co op game but that's only because online has never been great. The possibilities with excellent online implementation in what seems like the best Smash game yet would be amazing. I have no doubt it will get better with time though.

Shame to hear about the online. Hopefully Nintendo work to make some fixes in the future. Got my game but I won't play till after Christmas.

Haven't played Octopath but given your time constraints and the switch's portability it might be a good option. With ACO you know exactly what you're gonna get, it's a more refined Origins in a better setting with a betterstory and characters. RDR2 however is probably the one of the 3 that if you could only play 1 then I would recommend, however there is a big chance you will not like it. It is a giant time sink and I don't mean just overall completion time but session wish. You will literally do nothing if you just play for 30-60min. However I think it's an important game to play to

Switch has been amazing for Nintendo's first party. Amazing numbers. I actually think the Switch will even make MP4 a big seller. (not this level but big in respect to usual MP performance)

Yeah not a huge stretch. QB till Control announcement took 2 years so maybe they can do 1 year between Control and QB2. Remedy really did sound like they wanted to go multiplat though, would be strange committing to a sequel before seeing the performance of Control. A theory a bit more out there. Rare Replay came out in 2015 so fits the 4 year thing. Technically they are Xbox IPs and there is many on it that are beloved and would be bold to make a sequel. Any contenders? For me QB2 doesn't fit the 'beloved' or 'bold' parts of the comment. Plus also not fitting into deep development if it's by Remedy. KI is actually an interesting one. Possible if you count KI as the single title of the Xbox IP. Sunset fills the beloved and bold aspects most imo however Insomniac own the IP, not Xbox.
