That's what I love about the game.  Though I've never just had an NPC die like that for no apparent reason.  I can understand why that would sour you a bit lol.

Did you see him die?  Maybe one of your pawns has the Dragonsplague and they assassinated him? lol I dunno.

That type of dynamic stuff is cool to a point imo. I have no idea how he died, I thought that maybe on a game basis his 'health' was at zero from his battle with the monsters prior to me saving him then maybe after he spoke to me and I accepted the game clicked in and he just dropped dead. It would even be fine if it was just easier to traverse around the map. I wasn't going to go walking back for 20-30min to try get a wakestone. He probably won't even be where I left him. The game wouldn't be hurt in the slightest if it had these things but ALSO fast travel points in towns, a mount and some damn polish. Elden Ring is the best because it has the exploration elements and it REWARDS exploration with easier access to areas explored. Same concept as Death Stranding, you want to explore and that because it will also give you easier access to traverse these places later. Then the focus can be on the gameplay and dynamic elements without the frustration.

I have a friend of mine playing it too, further along then me and he's also about to dump the game because what he thinks is a broken quest line. Can't make any progress, NPC not reacting how it should. Some quest where you have to get someone out of prison (not the Caged Magistrate one) but he has made zero progress in about a week and has tried everything.

  2. Played for a couple hours last night and just sort of another perfect example of some of my issues with this game for anyone that cares.

I decided to venture out west from the main town to areas I haven't been. Along the way you are in combat like every 30 seconds against similar enemies as usual. Eventually after like 15 min I get to this cool canyon with carcasses and enemies and a man fighting various enemies. Ruined Castle in the distance. Kill everyone and he speaks to me and asks that I escort him to that ruined castle, I accept. Nearly instantly after accepting the quest he falls dead, like literally within seconds, don't know what killed him cause no enemies around. I don't have any wakestones so cant review him so decided maybe I can carry him and that was the point of the quest. I'm slowing carrying him, having to drop him to fight every time and I turn the bend and there is this epic fight happening between an Ogre and a Drake, cool as fuck, but I'm here carrying this npc and trying to traverse and getting stuck and shit while climbing up to the castle. More fights and eventually I get to a ladder which I can't climb with the dead npc. I try find another way around yet another ladder. Can't revive this guy, spent like 30-40min at this point essentially doing nothing and I can't take him where he needs to go. I just have to dump him and climb up the ladder and theres a Cyclops fight but not much else there. End up having to just leave him dead on the floor somewhere and I continue to venture west and after like an hour of total play I get to a town (Checkpoint town) but I couldn't progress further (story progression issue, needed to complete another quest first). Town has no fast travel thing so have to get an ox back to the main town and after about an hour or so of play time I technically have made zero progression in anything and none of that experience is what I would call fun. Was fighting the same 3 types of enemies (plus a cyclops) and carrying a dead body while traversing through the game's jank. This NPC btw is not at the morgue so can't revive him there. Assume I need a wakestone then go back to this location I dumped him at (via walking again because not horses or anything) to revive him.

Nah you didn't.  There really wasn't much to that place.

Considering what a pain it was to get to that place I was pissed it didn't have one of those fast travel points.

Traversal and exploration imo is both it's best and worst thing. There are times were I do simply want to do a quest and just getting around can be a pain sometimes. Having an Ogre or a Minotaur crash through your path is awesome early and having an epic moment of a Griffin coming down and attacking a Boar or another beast is epic early on but all those things are having diminishing returns to for me and the actual direction part of the game is lacking a tad imo. It's cool when I want to explore and I just roam around but those kind of things have never really been the core things I enjoy, it's my main issue with the new Zelda games too.

    CuckoSan ran lol

Anyway , for you that are playing this...once you beat the game if you decide to ng+ , the whole map is revealed. It doesn't reveal stuff you haven't found but but what you explored isn't a different color anymore. So I would explore all you want before finish the game because after that you have to do it by memory.

I just found the elven village and of course j don't have a pawn that speaks elven :D damnit

I still haven't found the sphinx.

I found this village and I'm still fairly early and it was pretty cool that I couldn't understand anything. Managed to communicate a night in the inn at least lol

Avatar was not a ubisoft game for many hours. I thought I was in the clear. Turned out to be wrong haha but there is always hope :reg:

I would recommend going into this  with zero hope and expectations and then hopefully be pleasantly surprised lol

  6. About 10h in now and my feelings range greatly from session to session tbh. I've had awesome moments and really cool things happen then have had very frustrating elements creep in with the game design and game engines. I'll play more before proper thoughts but it truly is a Dragon's Dogma sequel in every way.. a great but flawed game with all the PS3 jank the original had but also all the charm. There's something really good here but I am surprised that this doesn't seem to have the level of Capcom polish (I'm not talking performance in any way) that modern Capcom games have.

It's not doing as well as I expected either.  The Steam concurrent players was WAY less than what I expected it to be.  Only around 280K and I was expecting 750K - 1M concurrent.

The scores, and negative press as well as the game lacking DLSS support really hurt it.

However, this game will continue to sell well over time as things get added I'm sure.

Yeah I agree, no calling it a commercial flop or anything close at all. Just expected more. But no doubt this will have legs like all other major Bethesda rpgs

It’s the second biggest GP launch outside of FH5, which was also on Xbox One.

I don’t think FM8 will reach it as quickly given it’s not on Xbox one.

Honestly expected this to blow everything else away. First major Bethesda SP RPG since FO4, years and years in dev, new IP, console exclusive, had a hype and marketing build up unlike most recent games. It was THE big MS drop for the forseeable future. Expected big big numbers. 10m players is fine but hardly impressive, especially considering the metric they are using (players)

What were you expecting? It’s already the most successful Bethesda launch of all time.

Given it's by far the biggest Xbox release in ages outside of Halo, given the sales of past Bethesda rpgs and this being on GP I expected it to be way higher when accounting for PC also. I would've expected 10m in sales if it was being sold tbh, so 10m 'players' after a couple weeks isn't really that impressive tbh. Forza will prob pull those numbers easily in the same time.

Ha I love cheese, but have developed lactose intolerance. I can tolerate heated pizza cheese (like a slice), but milk, cold cheese, ice cream, etc and I’m pissing out of my ass.

Yeah I'm the same man. Pizza is usually fine cause there is actually only a very small amount of lactose in cooked mozzarella.

Anything dessert or pure milk based for me and it's over
