  1. Those threads can generally get pretty big, especially if it was made pre-release and they're likely to contain mostly useless posts and heavily biased opinions leading to even more useless posts since it'll just start a chain of personal insults. I think the roundtable type discussion has the benefit of removing all the junk and focusing on the the discussion that is actually worth reading from those threads.
  2. That works in audio/video. Reading that is a mess. The old saying "A chain is only as strong as it's weakest link" describes our situation here. We have to work with the fact that everyone will be doing this for free, during their free time. It's fine to have noble aspirations, but we need to be realistic with what content we can supply. I like Dekz idea, the biggest problem we're going to face with the website is that we likely don't have the resources to make legitimate reviews work at anything more than "once in awhile." I think we'll have the same problem with the intentionally biased
  3. I put him up to that btw, I figured the laughing at the end gave it away lol
  4. I haven't talked to him about it and I don't think we need any direction for the first time.
  5. Let's just do that idea Dekz had about just talking and seeing how that goes.
  6. We're pretty much at the end of the month, pick a day.
  7. Let's do it. Weekdays after 3PM EST work for me with the exception of this coming Monday.
  8. Let's just get on Skype sometime this week (or next, Thanksgiving weekend for Canadians) and see how well we get along. This thread is full of good ideas, bad ideas, and ideas that work situationally but ultimately we all agree that the success of this podcast is going to be based on us, and whoever is listening, having fun.
  9. The problem is that the point when decent discussion turns into 'fanboy bullshit' is going to be a moving target as a result of it being highly subjective. I liked the exclusion 'score wars' as a objective way to reduce the 'fanboy bullshit' because that's a really good idea, a forum where the scores don't matter and discussion is based solely around personal experience is probably enough of a roadblock to keep the majority of the fanboys out because having somebody else's opinion to validate a post that isn't well communicated, ignorant or just irrelevant, is a crutch that people won't be ab
  10. So basically what Serious Business was designed to be before it ended up becoming a cesspool of religion bashing?
  11. There's a pretty big difference between structure and a script, I think you're underestimating how much structure there is in the podcasts for major gaming websites. You're also acting like structure and the free-flow discussion are mutually exclusive when I know you were a fan of the 1up podcasts which was able to hit both so well which made it enjoyable. If this podcast does happen I'll be sure to have notes, it doesn't mean I have to list them like bullet points but if somebody wants to know what motivation for completing the career events in Dirt 2 is I can have that information with me i
  12. I write a lot of stuff down but never really get around to finishing it, I started writing up some structure ideas I had for the SW podcast but it got me interested in playing Dirt 2 again so I didn't finish it and haven't gone back. SystemWars.com Podcast Segment 1: Introduction Segment 2: Whatcha been playin'? - Self-explainatory; avoid topics listed in other segments (Me) Dirt 2 - So much fun - Presentation is great (very westernized) - Lots of difficulty levels, made getting into the game and progressing as a driver easy - Hitting a corner with the right
  13. Something like that, was really hoping to get feedback from Diplomat and perhaps get some back and forth discussion with him about it for ideas. Right now it's pretty much throwing ideas up on the blackboard and seeing what sticks but I haven't gotten a place to bounce the ideas off of anybody until you came along.
  14. Co-op angle entirely, I was also hoping to stay away from "reviewing" and simply discuss how well the co-op works for the game and perhaps shed some light on co-op games in general since stuff like Ultimate Alliance 2 flies under the radar despite being a lot of fun to fuck around in with 3 other people.
  15. We were actually planning on pitching the idea to do co-op reviews for the main site, I sent my idea to Diplomat but he never got back to me so I dunno what's gonna happen. I really like the co-op angle though and I think there's a lot of room to make it work rather than the typical review format while still being something people would read without immediately dismissing it because an exclusive game didn't score like they had hoped.
  16. Yeah I'm down. I'm also gonna try to talk Fatty into do a co-op centered podcast if anybody with a decent audio recording setup wants in. :roflmao:
  17. This was pretty much your idea, Mage. How long until you can participate? Random ideas: - (Obviously stolen) What you've been playing - Forza 3 vs. Gran Turismo 5 - ODST, worth $60? - Left 4 Dead 2, worth another $60? - TGS (probably best to limit it, all our impressions are pretty much based off impressions and limited bullshot media. Perhaps just game of the show or something) - Segue from ODST into a discussion revolving around co-operative gameplay (and horde modes if there's enough substance for that part of the discussion)
  18. I'd suggest a mock podcast that isn't intended to be released to see how everything goes. It's good to see who will actually show up and whether your list of people works together in addition to checking the sound quality and having something to reflect on for planning the real podcast.
  19. lol writing? Well, gonna need a script of some kind unless you are just that imaginative with your wordplay and can do it structure free If you can more props to you dawg. In regards to other things like the 3 people thing and such, some semblance of a script will be needed to keep a continuous flow going. I figured you were talking about writing in the sense that the majority of stuff we say is scripted rather than simply writing up introductions to segments or something.
  20. Do TV tuner cards capture XBL chat?
  21. Ah, so like DVD commentary? I still think the conversation would be a little bland but that introduces a new idea. Gameplay footage released with two audio tracks; the game's audio and the commentary. Not sure the requirements on the web development end for something like that though. The only counter idea I can think of would be something like having multiple video captures and a podcast which gets edited with relevant game videos to the discussion. It's similar to what you came up with but the video in this situation is treated as commentary to the audio instead of vice versa. There's subst
  22. Kind of like 1UP Game Night and Broken Pixels? What was your idea of how to get that working with people who aren't in the same room? The biggest initial problem I see is that you'll have 2-3 people playing different parts of the game so the conversation won't be very good (non-issue with multiplayer I suppose).
  23. Wow, I sort of expected this to end up being somebody playing a joke but damn, sucks to go out so young and he was a really cool guy to play games with.
