XBL has party chat, so if it's integrated into Switch as opposed as into individual games, then you could chat while playing splatoon or mario kart. What you couldn't do is invite friends into your lobby.

Indies are moving out of the pixel-art, cutesy space and beginning to plant themselves firmly in the mid-tier release space. If I were EA/Activision/Ubisoft, I'd be reviving all of my mid-tier franchises to head them off at the pass. If they capture this market, then the next step is AAA games. Once they hit that, the big three third parties are screwed if one of their GaaS titles tanks. Really good book that explains this type of thing: The Innovator's Dilemma.
