I don't think I agree with XVI having a good story or even good writing. I've seen quite a few random cutscenes and I found every single one of them to be dry and flaccid. It's like it WANTS to be seen as interesting and serious but the writing doesn't do a good job of making me want to stay engaged.
The tone shifts are an issue too, one moment the game is a "a drama for grown ups" but then shifts into typical "JRPG nonsense for teenagers". The game doesn't do a good job balancing the two and it's because the writing just isn't good. They try, they really do try but sometimes effort doesn't make up for lack of talent.
Unless the game is being made by Matsuno, FF should avoid trying to take on serious themes.

Sun Wukong has like 70 powers doesn't he? That's my main issue with the game. Wukong is OP as fuck so how do you make a good game with him?
There is a lot of flexibility and variety you can tap into for gameplay purposes though. Hell, just half of that 70+ powers would still be more than the majority of games. Assuming of course they even bother to explore the vast moveset this character possesses.
I feel like they have to though. If his moveset is nerfed and limited then it's not really Wukong. It's the Superman problem. The characters are OP by nature but that makes it difficult to design a game around them.

So is it traditional style or that new JRPG style?

First was alright. Didn't really want a sequel though so not sure if I'm going to check this out.

I don't think I've ever had my backlog this bad before. Back in the day I might've had 5-10 games in the backlog. No big deal, I could burn through that on a 2 week vacation.
Now I can barely keep my backlog under 30. Doesn't help that I tend to impulse buy so every time I start scratching games off the list they immediately get replaced by other shit I bought on a whim. It's really bad right now since I bought a PS5 recently. I was browsing through my PS Game Library and noticed so many games I straight up forgot I even bought.

@Sabo don't forget theif's ring. man...that's the best for sneaking past enemies.
Yeah. I got it. Took me awhile though because I completely forgot vaulting was a thing in this game. Wonder why they got rid of it in later games?

A lot of games have ditched split-screen so that's really not that big of a deal.
Spectator mode? The only time I've ever used that was in a Fighting Game, and that's only because its a full lobby so I'm waiting for my turn.
Why would I want to race AI in a multi-player mode? I can just play single player for that.
These are not essential so who really cares that they're missing?

Whatever happened to Cliffy B? The dude made Unreal, Unreal Tournament, and Gears of War so its not like he is some hack. I know Lawbreakers bombed hard but that sounded like too many people in suits got involved with that game's development. Guess he just got tired of dealing with publishers and retired again.

Anyone remember the optimal stage progression in Demon's Souls? I can not remember it. I know it technically doesn't matter but I do remember the optimal progression giving you access to stuff faster.

This was the first game I ever played online. Such an awesome experience even with my 56k connection. Nostalgia is strong with this one, I'm going to pick it up regardless if it's good or not.

Sabotage has spoken. It's a confirmed flop.
Is it a decent pick up at a cheap price though?
Oh, don't get me wrong, it's not terrible and it has some cool ideas. I just don't think the game is underrated like Aza seems to think.
It's just Western made Action games always tend to lack a bit in the fundamental department. If the fundamentals aren't solid then everything built on top of it is always going to feel off. I'm a Action game snob though so I'm harder to please than most people. Things that I perceive as shortcomings probably won't bother everyone else as much.
If you can get the game for around 30-40 bucks then yeah, it's worth checking out at that price. It's nowhere close to top tier Action games or even high tier level and is more comparable to mid-tier stuff. Go in expecting something on a No More Heroes or Gunvalkyrie tier.

it looks cool! ign flopped it, so it's probably good lol.
Yeah, the game certainly got the look down.
Its sitting at a 68 at Metacritic so it certainly has problems. It's only 20 bucks though so I might just grab it anyways. I'll just set expectations to low.

Demon’s Souls is great at 60FPS. It still looks crisp too Returnal is also $30. The gunplay is excellent. I think I may hop on that deal myself.
Yeah, I saw that but I'm not really into Roguelikes. I did see Thymesera(?) and I might grab that. It's the Bloodborne inspired game, no clue if it's good or not.

On another note, I got my PS5 yesterday but I was busy so couldn't get around to setting it up. I just finished doing that and holy mother of God, this thing is big and ugly. Like holy shit, no wonder there are so many people wanting a Slim. I mean, I knew it was big but you don't realize it's pure bulk until it's staring right back at you.
But anyways, fired it up, browsed the PS Store just to see what deals were going on and saw Demon's Souls for 30 bucks. It just seemed right to make it my first PS5 game and the first game I'll use to christen this big, fat, ugly thing.

The true ending (which has all of the best battles) only requires one playthrough.
That's cool but I'm not going to bother chasing it. I'm just going to do what I want. I played P5R with trying to accomplish everything in one playthrough and the game just felt like such a chore, I'm not doing that again LOL. Especially since I'm actually enjoying P4G, I'm not trying to dampen that enjoyment.

As much as I love the Persona games, I always start to burn out halfway through. They're too long for their own good, imo.
I totally hear you. P5R just did not want to end. I had my fill of the game around the 60 hour mark but that game didn't want to end until the 120 mark. If that game was like 80 hours tops I probably wouldn't dislike it as much as I do.
-
Ehh, I thought it was pretty average as most Western made Action games tend to be.
-
Apparently if you want to see everything you have to do two playthroughs because a lot of stuff is locked behind a second playthrough. So I'm not really concerning myself with getting a Good/True ending on this playthrough, I'm just doing whatever I want.

I'll play the Horizon MMO if it's good or if Matter from Bungie is a good PVE game. But casually don't feel like burning out raiding.
The fuck is Matter? You mean Marathon?

So I've put in close to 10 hours into P4G so far and I'm enjoying it. A lot of it has to do with the writing, I find the writing in P4G to be so much better than P5R. I even find the characters to be more entertaining. I really didn't care for the cast in P5R so it was hard to care for any of their plights because I just found all the characters to be either generic or annoying.

Sheep starting to get shook. Ya' love to see it.
What's up?
Can't be afraid your overrated glorified expansion is about to get overshadowed by a genuine and legitimate GotY contender, right?

Yeah, I hear you. I think a lot of it has to do with us just getting older and the majority of the online population are young. I'm too old to want to be dealing with a bunch of young dumbass kids and try hard dudebros.

Meanwhile FF XVI sales have dropped considerably and failed to meet expectations. After the initial hype and shill reviews ran their course the real consensus shined through and the consensus is XVI is overrated and disappointing.
Hey SE, maybe next time you might want to put an RPG inside your flagship RPG. Idiots...
BG3 is going to wipe it's ass using FF XVI.

P4G is great but I feel it would be tough to go back to P4 after the QoL improvement P5 did in regards to it's gameplay.
I replay old JRPGs all the time so I'm use to playing without QoL improvements.

Holy shit, you stuck with the show?
I bounced after the episode
Glenn died. Show was just done for me after that.
That was like, what?
Beginning of Season 6?
Can't imagine sticking around for more after that.
