Did you just call Blizzard a c-tier dev?

    Hahaha.

Man, old school Blizzard was so fucking cool. Even early Wow days were excellent.

Here, this is to the memory of the real Blizz. When their shit used to be cool.

That was like 20 years ago.

Diablo 2, WoW, Brood War are some of my favourite games of all time.

This is a different company though. They're incapable of making those types of games. They're firmly c-tier now, honestly maybe lower.

  2. Yeah so I'm about 20 hours into the game and I'm definitely mixed on it. I think it does some really cool stuff, mostly with the pawns.

    - The recruiting of other peoples pawns as well as the benefits of having others recruit yours is well done  - the idea that pawns will know directions to a quest/general information based on their experience in other worlds is super cool and does a lot to make the world feel alive. I like that they make the second/third pawns basically disposable

    - At a high level, I think they pull off the risk/reward of adventuring pretty well. You definitely have to be mindful of how far you want to push before heading home. I've got myself in a couple situations where I lost some progress but it always feels like my own fault, which is good.

    - Combat is fun, I'm playing a Thief - still need to experiment with other vocations (though most people seem to think Thief is the best). You get a good moveset and the ability to mix and match passives from other vocations is nice. I like that it's low effort to switch, again they really promote it which is good

    - World feels very organic, especailly how side quests are handled. Coming back to people/places a few days after you do something and getting new quests/seeing the place changed feels good

The game definitely falters in a few areas though.

-Performance wise it just sucks. There's no reason for it to be so subpar technically. It's mostly fine in the open world but the main city is atrocious. RE Engine has always been great for me so not sure what's up here, I guess it's the open world transition of it.

-Buggy. There's some mechanics that are intentionally cryptic, which is fine, but they're also (sometimes) busted. Pawns are pretty shit at following orders, as an example - pawns will say something about a tower off in the distance, or a ladder, you tell them to "go" and they either stand still or just act like a fucking retard. The way guards aggro just doesn't make sense a lot of the time - particularly frustrating on a couple quests such as when you gotta bust that dude out of jail.

-Some repetitiveness that just isn't enjoyable. I feel like I've had to go to the masquerade on three separate occasions as an example. Maybe this is my fault for the order in which I did quests.

Feels like a game that will get a lot better with an enhanced edition down the line. As much as I enjoy the positives, the most telling thing for me is I just don't feel enthused to boot it up half the time.

  3. Circled back to Prince of Persia which I dropped at some point, maybe when FF came out, I forget.

Anyway, game is awesome - I just started over since I wasn't terribly far in anyway. Think I'm about halfway through now - just a very well made Metroidvania but where it really shines is the movement, the loadout you get is great and everything is super snappy - leads to some amazing platforming sections.

  4. Been playing a ton of season 9 of Project Diablo 2. One of the best fan made mods I can think of and it's really been gaining steam the last few seasons, probably more players online than D2R. They've done a great job expanding on the original game - added a ton of items/crafting, bunch of end game content, some new mechanics (corrupting probably being the big one) and really increasing the build variety by buffing some less powerful abilities. They also do a good job of shifting the meta every season.

is it worth playing as a SP game?

the castlevania crossover stuff looks cool

    I'd say so.

I think it depends if you're in the mood for a survival/building game. It's definitely a slower process if you play it solo.

I wonder how this game has evolved. I saw a new trailer for a content update recently and it looks pretty cool.

They've added a couple biomes since release and a bunch of items/building related stuff. It's a fun game, especially if you have a group.

  7. Yeah I mean it just makes way more sense to compare Digital vs. Physical sales for things that offer both. You'll obviously never buy a microtransaction or a subscription physically. Everyone knows that a higher percentage of overall $$ is being spent on those YoY. So tell me, of games that are available physically and digitally, percentage splits. Probably varies a lot by console too, I'm sure Nintendo has a much higher % of physical than Sony, and Sony much higher than MS.

Nah lmao.  Final Fantasy was absolutely huge in the day.. wtf :D

And I never said it wasn't losing steam... In fact I specifically said it IS declining.  And there's a reason for that.  Japan is ONE of them.. and this is actually a PRIME example of SquareEnix's issues.  Japan COULD be massive still for Final Fantasy.  If they made Final Fantasy games on the Nintendo Switch...  Not some shitty spinoff FF game.. but make a mainline Final Fantasy game for Nintendo's console among the others.  I don't want to hear "power" excuses either..  You can make a high quality AAA Final Fantasy game on Nintendo Switch.  Nintendo makes high quality Switch games all the time.

They're chasing this stupid high production action-fantasy game with light/no RPG mechanics and it's just not working.  It sells to Playstation fanboys because its exclusive.. but nowhere else gives a damn.

Guys, again.. it's not about the immediate sales.. It's about growing the franchise in all markets.  You don't grow on platforms unless you commit to them.   And with regards to Playstation.. Final Fantasy isn't going to grow any bigger than it is now.  It's going to shrink if anything.  The series is stagnating.  We haven't heard about FF16's sales in forever and probably wont until after the PC version release in their hopes that it will prop it up to sound a bit more impressive.  It's not.  FF7 Rebirth will sell similarly.

I dunno, 7 was definitely huge, 10 was pretty big. It's certainly the biggest JRPG series, especially in the West. It's extremely important and popular in core gaming circles and online. I doubt your average western gamer could name a main FF character outside of Cloud, maybe Tidus. There's a reason FF7 is being remade with a huge budget and 3 parts and the other ones get poor HD rereleases at best.

Regardless, I don't really disagree with what you're saying. I do think Square put themselves in a difficult spot. Since FF7, mainline FF games have always represented the big budget,  grand, cinematic JRPG. The only time they really strayed from that was IX. Sales wise they're probably much better off moving to Switch but I think they're trying to hold onto that "prestige" aspect of FF, for better or worse.

Nah man it is.  Because sales are sales... it doesn't matter the number of platforms.  FF is a massive franchise, and like I said... FF7 is the most beloved entry in the entire series.  Final Fantasy used to be a multiplatform series at launch.  Dragon's Dogma was never the major series Final Fantasy was.

There's NO world that exists where SquareEnix used less resources to create FF7 Rebirth than Capcom did for Dragon's Dogma 2 :D:D

Be honest with yourself man.  FF is a series with tons of legacy... and has been primarily a PS oriented franchise since the release of FF7...  Dragon's Dogma does not have that legacy.

I think you're overselling how big FF ever has been tbh. Yeah, FF7 was the biggest of the bunch but it's hardly a huge series and a lot of the sales of the big ones can be attributed to Japan who wouldn't be buying this regardless of the platform.

Also wtf we mean by "Final Fantasy used to be a multiplatofrm series at launch". Literally two of the mainline games (specifically the worst two) were ever multiplat at launch.

Rebirth probably would have benefited from being on PC day one, but Xbox wouldn't have moved the needle and the effort/$ used to\get it to run on Series S probably wouldn't have been made up by the sales.

  10. finally grabbed this today. only a few hours in but so far really liking it. it's definitely rough around the edges but it's also doing a lot of interesting things and has a satisfying gameplay loop, some of the dynamic aspects of the game are clearly a bit prone to weird things/bugs happening but it also makes for a really enjoyable and unique experience. it's a gamey ass game and if it continues along this way ill take that over some overproduced homogenized trash like ragnarok.
