But even you yourself said this in the other thread:

By the end of the game, I didn't hate Abby as much and actually didn't want that revenge anymore.

and for GD he actually liked Abby even more than Ellie and resonated more with her.

I mean those two lines alone just prove the strength of the narrative.

This game intentionally stacks everything against Abby through the first hafl of the game and then somehow has made you at the very least not want the revenge anymore. Now remember how on board for that revenge you were early on. I know I was ready to fucking murder everyone with Ellie. And like you said, we carry soooo much weight from the original going into this. So just look at it from an outside perspective and think that Part 2 is going to introduce a new character, have this character murder our fav character and then want you to kill to character so bad but at the end of the game not want that all and actually just want Ellie to move on. You have to admit that was a giant mountain to climb and that they somehow managed it.

Yeah I truly felt that way by the end of the game. But I also still didn't care much about Abby or any of the new characters tbh, if that makes sense.

I keep reading this and so much disagree that that was even at all a theme of the game. Constantly keep seeing, 'beating you over the head to feeling guilty for killing these ppl' when it literally does none of that. In fact the ending once again reinforces that Joel doesn't regret a single thing. The game is about TWO revenge tales instead of just one. It's like Oldboy in that sense. You go in expecting the revenge tale for Ellie then are shown a parallel revenge tale. It's just showing a different perspective and never once says any side is wrong. In fact, the whole game and world is never judged, it's always given context and made to understand ppl's point of view, even the Serphites aren't portrayed as outright evil.

It's frustrating continually seeing that shallow theme brought up becuase if that was their intention then it would've been done so differently. If the game wanted us to feel bad for Ellie killing Abby's friends or Joel killing the doc it would've been told totally different. For one, it would've been played side by side so you're attached to the new characters instead of killing them when you have zero attachment. It would'nt have literally saved the last scene of Joel and Ellie ever as Joel flat out saying he would do it all again. It wouldn't at all intentionally make you hate Abby and then do the switch at the most frustrating part from a player perspective. All these narrative choices are to push totally different story themes that what you are saying.

The game is about Hate. We all easily relate with and understand Ellie's hate and then the game sells you on Abby's hate. It's not selling you on guilt at all. Everyone is justified. That is the theme throughout the entire series and it continues here. We see two parallel characters that mirror each other nearly identically and then when the two tales meet, from then on it's a character study into how one is able to let go of the hate and the other isn't.

You could be right but my point still stands. Whatever shit they tried to sell you with Abby just isn't going to work, people just don't care about a character they have no attachment to who did something so terrible at the beginning of the game.

Done and finally got to go back and look at the leaks and reactions and holy shit :mj: Holy crap, imagine ruining this game with some of the most bs claims I've ever read in my life.

    - Abby isn't trans. Literally had a cry because of her character model (a character build that feeds into the story btw) like the cliche baby gamer

    - Zero Anti Christian sentiment or 'Ellie's revenge against a homophobic christian cult'. LMAO

    - Zero propoganda, or agenda or pushing anything. Every single character is given time, everything shown is grey, there is no forcing values.

    - The sex scene you all lost your mind on is actually a straight sex scene. :rawf:

Holy shit the bunch of babies in this thread.

Yeah, there are issues with the story but these fake rumors and accusations are just pathetic. People doing that are probably the ones who actually have an agenda.

  4. The more I think about it, the more I think ND should have went with a new cast of characters in Part 2, like how RE has a new cast every sequel.  I mean the ending in Part 1 was perfect and there really isn't much story left to tell with Joel and Ellie unless you do something ridiculous like what happened.  Especially if you really wanted to do the "both sides" theme, a new cast of character would have been a better way to do it.  People are already too attached to Joel and Ellie. After what Abby did, ND trying to make us feel bad for her just isn't going to work, it'd just make people hate the game even more and that's exactly what happened.

If I don't like where a game is going and I know this before releasing I don't purchase it.

If I'm Lukewarm on it.... I don't purchase it at launch.

If do get it and I hate it... I don't play it to completion.

You were taking your hate train so seriously you actually got banned for a week, like a pathetic fan boi:tom:

Then turned around bought the game full price at launch and played it to completion within a week :mroff:

For what it's worth, I too didn't like the story but still beat the game over the weekend. I have avoided watching any video spoilers going into it but did accidentally read some text spoilers on Twitter. I still gave it a chance thinking that with the right context, it could turn out great.

Sometimes I do this, other times I just go ape shit running around on a murder spree.

By going stealth route, I mean minimal killing to get past an encounter.

I tend to do stealth kills first (silencer, bows, stabbing/choking from the back) before I got spotted and just hunt down everyone.

Dude. I was soooo pissed at first. Like, seriously, I almost stopped playing. I absolutely hated the way they transitioned to Abby’s character arc. However, once I met the “mom/kid”, the arc started to resonate with me, and then I experienced the best parts of the game.   By the end, I liked Abby more than Ellie lol.

    Spoiler

Yeah. The switch to Abby was rough and then how they go on and on with Owen and Abby stuff made things worse. The flashbacks with them were the worst part of the game. Then it got a lot better when you met Lev and Yara. And the battle at the island near the end was just fucking insane :aitch:

By the end of the game, I didn't hate Abby as much and actually didn't want that revenge anymore. I guess ND achieved what they wanted to do. Overall I'm happy how it turned out but left feeling not completley satisfied (we get so little of Joel).

Gameplay and graphics wise especially the animation and atmosphere, the game was truly outstanding. Still feeling mixed on the story, I felt it could be executed better. Finished at around 25 hours I think, they could have cut about 4-5 hours and make it a much tighter experience.

I’m about 14 hours in and really curious to see how the story supposedly takes a nose dive. Because so far the game has been great.

You are probably safe at 14 hours. But read this at your own risk.

    Spoiler

Plot wise I would have been fine if it's a straight forward revenge story. First 10-12 hours were pretty good. Playing as Ellie, who got devastated like we did, and seek her revenge.  But about halfway through they decide to mind fuck you and show you another side of the story, putting you in control of Abby showing her POV from the same sequence of events. I mean are we supposed to empathise with her now? I don't get what ND is trying to do. I'm curious to know what you guys think.

To me, TLOU is done when there's no more story to tell with Joel and Ellie. The other side of the story could have told via a cutscene and the game can end in half the time. I just don't care for these new characters. Hopefully there's some kind of pay off at the end when we get back to Ellie.

  9. 10 hours in so far. Game looks absolutely beautiful, you just don’t get this level of detail in any other game. Animation is the real stand out here just as expected of ND, it just looks so good. I do wish there were an option to turn off the film grain though. Gameplay is on point and fluid resembling MGS5 which is a good thing. I’m not fully on board with the writing and execution yet, but it was engaging enough to keep me want to find out what happens next. Solid 9 so far.

If they show a spiritual successor to N64 Perfect Dark, its over.

It's coming, it's heavily rumored that The Initiative is working on it. Halo Infinite gameplay, Fable and Perfect Dark trailers are the absolute minimum I expect out of the conference.

  11. I don't see how MS won't deliver in the July Showcase. They are at least going to show Halo Infinite gameplay, Fable and Perfect Dark, these alone will get people hyped. Probably the next Forza will also be there and maybe a more in depth look at Hellblade. Unless they show no gameplay again, there is no way they are going to disappoint this time IMO.

People thinking this won't be a thing next gen. :mj:

Yup, having a performance option is actually great news and should be standard next gen. 4K 30fps for the highest visual fidelity possible but include a performance option to run games at 60fps at a lower graphic setting. This is the way to go next gen.
