ive only ever heard that term used for what are now basically retro multiplayer shooters like Quake, Unreal tournament etc that have no xp, no perks, no bars to fill. Mafia 1 was incredible when it released but I doubt it will have the sane impact today. Mafia 3 has fantastic story and characters, cutscenes. But the gameplay loop gets repetitious fast. What saves it imo is it’s gun play which imo is the best of its kind for this type of game
