The Fed had been considering to cut the interest rate for the past couple of weeks, and they finally did.

This is the first time they've cut the interest rate since 2008, right before the recession.

But why would they cut the interest rate if the country's economy is supposed to be booming?????

Trump even pleaded for the Fed to cut the interest rate even more than they did. Instead of cutting it down from 2.5% to 2.25%, Trump was trying to push them to push it down to 2%.

Now why would they be so concerned to do that?:francis:

This is almost all of Adam Schiff's questioning with Mueller.

Schiff is creating a very logical narrative here about what it means to accept assistance from a foreign country that is committing crimes to affect the outcome of an election, and he's clearly laying out what it means to be in a situation where there is a quid pro quo relationship, and how a person would be compromised by such a relationship when under investigation to the point where they would commit Obstruction of Justice.

so nothing has come of this.. why? I dislike Trump as much as anyone, but what is the point of all this?

Public hearings are meant for the public to gain more understanding.

The reason why you keep on asking why and pretending like nothing is happening.............is because you aren't reading up on what is happening, every subpeona that is currently out there, every investigation that is ongoing, every court case that Trump is doing to try and slow it down.

That's your responsibility to inform yourself on that.

There are over 10 active investigations on Trump between the FBI, the SDNY branch of the DoJ, and the Attorney General's Office for the State of NY.

it just seems like a big waste of money and time. He's going to be booted out of office in less than 2 years and then he can be charged with crimes.

No it doesn't............if he gets charged with crimes, it will be because of the work that is being done by these agencies and the documents, testimonies, and evidence that is being collected during this time.

I don't think you understand the significance of certain things.

Congress has the right to get tax information from any government official.........they literally teached us this during High School, it was called the Teapot Dome Scandal. The House of Representatives has been given OVERSIGHT powers on the Executive Branch, our Constitution specifically gives these powers.

And the President had lawyers basically say "nah.........we're not giving you tax returns because we really don't believe Congress has this power"

Are you saying that Congress should just ALLOW that legal argument to stand.........and therefore set legal precedent for elected officials in the future? That legitimately creates a constitutional crisis if we don't ENFORCE what the constitution grants us.

Its a legal fight that must be made, or else it creates more problems in the future.

We now the SIXTH GOP congressman just announce that they will not be seeking relection 15 months away in November 2020.

And its the third one from Texas, of all states.

Will Hurd, who actually represents the biggest stretch of the US Mexico border in Southwest Texas. He barely won re-election back in 2018. Its barely a +1 Republican district, so the chances of Democrats taking that one are more than good.

“The Mueller report and his testimony last week confirmed that the President’s campaign welcomed Russian interference in the election, and laid out ten instances of the President’s obstruction of justice. The President’s more recent attempts to prevent us from finding the facts is further evidence of obstruction of justice.

Statement from Speaker Pelosi saying the president is a criminal.

We now have the SEVENTH Republican congressman who is going to declare that they are not going to seek re-elect in 2020.

And he's the FOURTH one from Texas!!!!!! They must be getting some REALLY troubling internal polling from Texas. wow.

From NYT:

Quote

Representative Kenny Marchant of Texas is planning to announce his retirement on Monday, according to two Republican officials, becoming the fourth Republican House member from Texas in recent weeks to head for the exits rather than face re-election in 2020 in a state that is rapidly becoming more competitive.

Mr. Marchant, who was first elected in 2004, won his suburban Dallas district by comfortable margins for over a decade, but last year he prevailed by only three points against a Democratic opponent who had relatively modest financial resources. Mr. Marchant, a low-key member and reliably conservative vote, sits on the influential Ways and Means Committee.

With Mr. Marchant, a total of 11 House Republicans plan to retire or seek another office in 2020; just three House Democrats have announced they won’t run again. The Democrats hold a 37-seat majority in the House with two vacancies at the moment.

After a generation of dominance in Texas, Republicans are now facing the same challenges as their counterparts in other parts of the country: By linking themselves to President Trump and his incendiary brand of nationalist politics, they are alienating the sort of suburban voters who were once among the Republican Party’s most dependable supporters.

Especially considering that Ted Cruz just baaaaaaarely got by Beto O'Rourke, many people wrote that off as that being unique because Ted Cruz is awful.

But now we're getting signs that Republicans are actually scared of what is happening in Texas.

If they lose control of Texas.....:drake:

Nebraska GOP tells Republican lawmaker who said party is 'enabling white supremacy' to register as Democrat

By Justin Wise - 08/05/19 09:32 PM EDT

The Nebraska Republican Party on Monday called for GOP state Sen. John McCollister to re-register as a Democrat after he accused the party of enabling white supremacy in the United States.

John McCollister has been telegraphing for years that he has little if nothing in common with the Republican voters in his district by consistently advocating for higher taxes, restrictions on American’s Second Amendment rights, and pro-abortion lobby,” Nebraska Republican Party Executive Director Ryan Hamilton said in a statement. “His latest false statement about Republicans should come as no surprise to anyone who is paying attention, and we’re happy he has

:jonb:"Hey!!!!!!!!, Criticizing white supremacy sounds like Democrat TALK!!!!!!!"

"Go take that shit over to the Democrat party!!!"

So something is happening in the UK that is getting a big reaction from people, saying that newly appointed PM Boris Johnson is trying to do something unconstitutional.

The deadline to complete their Brexit is on October 31st.

Boris Johnson called for elections the day after, November 1st.

And people are screaming bloody murder because he's trying to suppress the opposition through a technicality in order to run out the clock and force a "hard Brexit"

Whenever you call for elections, there has to be a 6 week period before the election in which politicians cannot discuss things publicly AND they cannot attempt to pass any legislation during those 6 weeks.

In other words, people who oppose Brexit would be silence, and they could not propose their own legislation during the final, most important days before the Brexit deadline.

Boris Johnson is trying to use the elections to run out the clock.

There's been talk of trying to bring down the Government before the end of October with the help of Remainer backbench Conservative MP's in a vote of no confidence like Dominic Grieve.  The question is whether these same Conservatives are happy to run the risk of having a general election which could lead to a Corbyn-led Labour Government.  I suppose there's always the possibility that Boris could still come out on top if he campaigns successfully on a Parliament vs the People-type ticket (albeit without a overall majority probably like in the 2017 General Election) and forms a coalition with the Brexit Party although he's ruled that out already.  In that circumstance of coming out on top but coming shy of an overall Parliamentary majority, I could see him changing his mind though.

Donald Trump has just pressured Israel to ban Democratic Congresswomen Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib from visiting their country.

Quote

Trump tweeted Thursday: "It would show great weakness if Israel allowed" the women to visit, and claimed: "They hate Israel & all Jewish people, & there is nothing that can be said or done to change their minds."

Banning members of Congress from entering Israel is a risky move given the billions of dollars approved for Israel annually and the unusual bipartisan support Israel has long enjoyed in both the House and Senate.

Donald Trump just declared that these two congresswomen hate ALL Jewish people.

Which is ironic that this is happening, because this entire issue stems from Ilhan Omar arguing against laws being passed in which American people cannot boycott Israel products. Its basically a law written in America that says that America doesn't have the sovereign right if its anything related to Israel. An American law, written for Americans, that basically says that Israel takes precedence over America.

Its also a very surprising thing for Israel to do since they are setting a bad precedent. This means that America could counter-ban Israel people from visiting America.

Trump, out of nowhere, just went out of his way to start a relatively pointless fight. I'm guess he's trying to distract people from the fact that we have some very real recession indicators blaring right now.

The stories yesterday on the 10-Year Treasury Bond yield rates falling below that of the 2-Year Treasury Bond yield has a history of being 100% accurate for signaling that there is a recession coming soon after that occurs.
