Is systemwars dead (the concept of it)?

Recommended Posts

I’ll get to the point - Gens/exclusives have become quite diluted.  For example:

1. Is the wiiu last gen or this one? What about the switch?

2. Hardware-wise, OG Ps4 > OGXbox one, but one x > pro

3. As games become more about services, will “exclusives” become obsolete? I mean..certain ps4 titles are playable on multiple devices via PlayStation now, so won’t they all eventually be available?  And Play Anywhere makes Microsoft games playable on any Msoft platform (with appropriate specs). Also, is a game that’s on ps3/ps4/vita or wiiu/switch a true exclusive?

i don’t think traditional gens exist anymore. Also, how do you define a winner - The most exclusives? The best sales? The most, and best versions of, multiplats (but then you have best via base vs. refresh) Best services?

I just think it’s all pointless now. They all own in their own way.  Just my 3 cents.

lol at this stage in our lives, it's not about 'which' console you own, but how much you may have invested into your man cave.

Regardless of current trends all of us are in our 30's so it should be dead.

Xbox and PS4 are both standalone consoles . Pick whatever one you like the most

Switch is an overpriced baby gamers console with no games . Nintendo has been terrible providing a console for real gamers , not just nintonto fans

Its definitely a lot less dramatic when the previous gens as there are less AAA titles in general. There are way too many indies today, not to mention mobile gaming which kinda hurt the mainstream console ttiles.

Well, Im a sheep for life, so theres that lol

I have to say, and it's only because GDonkey made this awful thread, where everyone knows how it ends: Defense of the Ancients 2 is the real game.

There is no other game on par with the quality and complexity of said game. You can argue:"dude, it's not a sp game". But that doesn't mean jackshit because it's still the most complex, beautiful and engaging vidya of all time.

I mean Nintendo pretty much came up with an entirely different philosophy with their consoles after the gamecube, and the largest issue of entering the PC market - prohibitive cost; has been resolved (apart from bitcoin causing GPU inflation) with ever decreasing costs, coupled with the fact that we're all adults now, with our own incomes, which may or may not have been the case in '05/'06.

I think this forum is more sw focused than we were at Gamespot .

SS was more just us talking about games with each other with some SW thrown in

This place is 100 percent lame system wars shit because we are bored and can't think of much original stuff

Sony and Microsoft have about a 85% shared library, about 5% of that is first party exclusives not available to other consoles and the other 10% is third party exclusives not available to other consoles.

There's a massive amount of crossover so what it comes down to is what you want out of the rest they offer. Do you want VR? Do you want a far more powerful console? What controller do you like better? What services and features do you want? Do you favor multiplayer or single player? Do you want backward compatibility or game streaming?

They are very alike in most ways but radically different in others. There's still enough there to substantiate a System Wars narrative but it's moving further and further away from being hamstringed to games and much more about platform differences.
