Ike★ 2,952
I remember when “getting online” was a thing we did and we weren’t literally online all the time. It’s a really useful tool but people who live/put their own self-esteem into comments from the internet or how many followers are quite sad and it’s going to have such a negative effect on this younger generation. Social media has just turned into a popularity contest at this point.

It’s also created millions of jobs and made many people insanely rich, and is doing more and more of those two things by the second Edited January 24, 2019 by ghostz

Social media has just turned into a popularity contest at this point. it was originally created for research, everything on it was provided by universities. There was no profit involved. Once it open up to business it became a monster. Once the social media companies went public they too turned into monsters.

What’s wrong with the nature of the platforms? I mean from a user stand point, and an addition to human life standpoint. Privacy, which is overrated imo, is something you can say but I’m not really referring to it

The need for growth and further growth and higher profits and revenue. We just became numbers in an algorithm to sell us more shit, learning about everything we do, everything we say, everything we like etc. We aren't individuals anymore, we are just dollar signs to wallstreet. -GD-X★ 8,324
pros: excellent tool for promoting businesses, fitness programs/training, and acting/modeling; great way to keep in touch with family/friends who live far away; excellent platform for finding groups with similar interests. cons: distorts reality for impressionable users- ranging from political manipulation to instilling physical insecurities; cyberbullying; employer can terminate you for what you post on social media. bottomline: it can be great, but a lot of people are idiots and let social media ruin their lives. Fake News' primary demographic, the people who read and share it on facebook, is people 65+ and conservatives. Younger people aren't spreading this shit nearly as much unless they're conservative. Young people are having issues with social media, but it's not a young people problem. It's affecting everybody. Edited January 24, 2019 by McWicked

People are jealous of others people’s portrayal of life, even if most of the time that’s not how those people really live.
Long Ball Larry 1,364
Prime example, I’d never want to go to bora bora and be jealous of those who go if I never knew it existed. Exposure makes greed amplify by a billion
