Metro Exodus physical sales in the UK are +50% compared to Last Light, 57/43 split in favour of PS4

Recommended Posts

Metro Exodus missed out on No.1 by just 2,000 units. Yet more significantly, the game has posted a better opening week than 2013's Metro Last Light (released on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC). This result is even more impressive when you consider the growth of digital sales in the six years between the two titles (digital game sales are not counted in this data).

Launch physical sales for Metro Exodus are almost 50 per cent higher than Last Light. 57 per cent of Metro Exodus sales came on PS4.

That's a more normalized physical split from the UK if I've seen one.

Just shows that XBox gamers don't buy Japanese games, and explains why it misses like tens of games a year.

This is tragic after the 360 having a modest but still sizable Japanese game buying userbase.

It doesn't show anything because we don't know the digital breakdown. RE2 could have been a dramatically better digital performer while Metro could be a dramatically better physical performer.

It literally says nothing.

Know whats the split that's coming for Catherine that was on 360? 100/0. There are 10s of games a year like this now from Japan. That's MS's problem not a super huge franchise like RE.

Catherine is obscure weeaboo shit, Resident Evil is not. Apples to oranges.

All that "obscure shit" of 10s of games over the year sells more than all Capcom games combined on XBox.

Didn't Resident Evil 5 and 6 sell better on Xbox? Again, apples to oranges. Without digital information it's impossible to survey how these games actually sold relative to each platform.

"Obscure" shit like Nier Automata sold over 3 million on PS4, Persona 5 over 2 million, Nioh over 2 million etc. Nevermind when you add tens of games that do 200k-300k.

What does any of that have to do with Resident Evil and Xbox?

Nothing. But the digital split arguement is weaksauce regardless, even if the digital split would have be 2.5x the PS4 digital sales to even match PS4 due to userbase. There is no magical digital parity to save the splits.

Although Far Cry managed to top the charts, it isn't an especially impressive opening week. The game's launch week sales are 86.5 per cent down over last year's Far Cry 5. Of course, this is a spin-off Far Cry title, and so the comparison isn't overly fair. Yet even compared to 2016's Far Cry Primal (the previous spin-off), sales are a fraction of what we'd typically expect (Far Cry Primal sold almost four times as many units in its first week as New Dawn has).

60 per cent of Far Cry: New Dawn sales came on PS4, 39 per cent on Xbox One, with the rest on PC (physical sales only)

It's not "weaksauce", digital is a huge part of game sales now and it's particularly large for Xbox. Having physical only data paints an incomplete picture, so incomplete you can't even begin to know what that actual sales split is. If the situation were reversed it would be the same story, if we knew digital split and not physical the same problem would exist.

There's a reason I bring this up each time you guys post these UK threads, they provide zero incite into game sales.

under 5 and over is 6 is more than a million but I'll give you that one.

PS4 almost doubled Xbox1 sales in CY 2018 in the UK.   That difference is growing not shrinking.

PS4 ~ 1.1m
Switch ~ 820k+
X1~ 600k
