Look at their financials, PSN and their online presence is gigantic, they definitely know that there is a huge market in subscription services since they already are making a killing with Plus. They are going to be forced in the sense that MS is going full steam ahead and aren't going to give Sony the slow pace they usually like to transition between things. MS is going to speed up their plans, but those plans were always there. I don't even understand how this is supposed to be a bad thing, because they will definitely still have dedicated hardware longer than MS, will still have physical releases (for now) and still a major focus on exclusive games.
