The IP is worthless to Activision. They dont have any devs that can take over, what are they going to do with it.

Wasn't Bungie locked into a 10 year contract with them? Release a third game...

Which is why Bungie got it back at a relatively fair price of $100 million.

Chances are that Bungie negotiated that $100 million in payments, not all of it in one big lump payment.

Bungie now has an IP that Activision spent TONS OF MONEY advertising the shit out of, and is well known.

Why Activision is spending $500 million on Destiny

Yes, it's true: Activision is spending half a billion dollars on Bungie's Destiny. Yes, that's true despite Bungie's statement that, "the budget for Destiny, including associated marketing costs and pizza Wednesdays, is nowhere near 500 million dollars." And that's because, when Activision head Bobby Kotick revealed that gargantuan number earlier this year, he was speaking to the entire franchise, not just this September's game.

"That number has been widely misinterpreted as a production number for the first game," Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg explained in an interview today at Gamescom. "That number is an all-inclusive number that's several years worth of investment, including marketing and several games, and a lot of up front investment in things like engines and tools that will be able to be used for years to come."

Guarantee you that OVER HALF of that budget was for marketing. Commercials simply do not have Led Zeppelin songs in them unless they dropped some huge dollar-bills.

For Bungie to essentially break the contract with the rights to the game for $100 million? That's not bad at all.

Not for a multi-billion dollar generating franchise.

Doesn't matter. This IP probably cost more than most or multiple of Microsoft's recent studio acquisitions including IP. Get real.

Who can know, but that wouldn't mean anything regardless... This is Destiny, and $100 million dollars isn't shit for an IP this big...

Right. An IP is only as good as it's developer. $100 million is a lot no matter how you slice it. $100 million is a lot more than what AAA games cost over a 5 year period. It's a lot more than any Microsoft IP ever will be beside Halo and even that might be close to what Bungie paid to keep the rights.

No it's not, it doesn't have a bus factor and it's not some deep game... A competent developer can pick up right where a previous developer left off and Activision has plenty which could have filled their void. Halo is in the billions first off so that's not even in the same conversation, and Gears is without a doubt well beyond this as well, hell even Forza no doubt is at this point...

$100 million is a bargain bin sellout.

And you're a fucking idiot.

"A competent developer"... "An IP is only as good as it's developer". These are literally the same thing yet you go on the most retarded spiel ever. Gears of War is dead, Halo is dying and no one gives a fuck about Forza. Destiny blows all of those away. $100 million is a lot, quit reaching.

Trying to reiterate stupid posts doesn't make them any less dumb.
