Moon Studios signs publishing deal with Private Division (Take Two)

Recommended Posts

And now we're hearing news that Microsoft was forcing developers that they weren't even going to SHOW THEIR GAME during this past press conference unless they agreed to become games on Game Pass.

There is a bad pattern forming here.

Microsoft is now just forcing all independent studios, who aren't backed by EA/Ubi/Activision, that they have to sign onto GamePass or else they won't get promoted on Xbox.

And those small developers who ARE confident that their next game will sell well-enough to keep them afloat are TELLING MICROSOFT TO FUCK OFF.

But those small developers who are unsure about their future are being pressured to accept the limited Game Pass money right now.

This is toxic.

Remember, Xbox has done something like this before.

With XBLA "exclusives" back during the X360 gen. They basically told independent game makers that they were not interested in their game at all unless they committed to becoming an exclusive to XBLA.

They running the same exact playbook with GamePass.

This has been known about for like 6 months, no one knew who it was with but they were going to make a multiplatform game.

These sensationalist fake threads about old news are getting boring and dumb.

Sensationalist fake threads

Literal news that just got announced in the last 24 hours

The sensationalism for something that's been known for over half a year renders the reaction fake. Pretty simple.

You knew they were signing a publishing deal with a Take Two division?

Like it wasn't news when Supermassive signed a publishing deal with Activision (after we knew they weren't staying with Sony).

Stop having a cry cause your precious corporation is being teased :mj:

This isn't new, none of it. Who they were doing this with was unknown but not the premise of them developing a multiplatform game.

Guess their next gen was too expensive and ambitious for game pass.

It's from the fact that at this point Microsoft - as a whole, not the Xbox gaming division; must be looking at all their money sunk into hardware, and marketing in order to compete in a very expensive and risky market, along with the numbers that come their competitor's sales compared to their own; and start to realize GamePass is where they are headed long term.

Do I think they'll abandon the Xbox 1? Not in the traditional sense; rather they'll just expand Gamepass onto other platforms, and provide firmware updates and the like for the Xbox1 years down the line. Hell they supported Windows XP until 2014.

One thing is clear, they're not interested (by virtue of their actions) in truly competing with Sony and Nintendo at this point.

It's like a sport team. You ask the owner, the General Manager, the players, the star(s) on the team: "You guys think you have a serious shot this year?"

They'll answer yes, but the truth is they may be starting out a rookie - and want to develop them; they may have had a roster overhaul, or new management, or are rebuilding with draft picks, but we know they don't stand a chance. However, you can't operate and tell people: your fans, your employees in the building, your team: "yeah, not this year guys".

Microsoft has too numerous of studios that don't have the pedigree of AAA calibre titles, they don't have a flagship title clear as I can tell, that you require an Xbox in order to enjoy. How confident are they, in this one particular field/division of their entire company that they want to sink billions more into without any payoff. At least with Gamepass you can see the 'Netflix' model and understand how that could work out in their interest in the long-term.
