Jeff Grubb: Xbox Live Gold going away; multiplayer to be free.

Recommended Posts

Apparently just for Free2play games... but it's kinda confusing how he words it in that specific tweet.. you'd think he'd add that context to the tweet itself so there'd be no confusion.

Ah I see, so they're just doing what Sony is doing now. It's a good move, but it took them too long.

Jeff Grub said it's going away entirely. It makes a lot of sense since Xbox have less to lose compared to ps+ and financially MS can take more of a hit. They also have an appealing replacement in Gamepass. Huge move if true.

It's confusing at best.  I'd wait for clarification, but if true, yea then that's a HUGE play by MS...

What would ultimate have then?

Starting in September xCloud and GamePass merge for no additional cost.

MS is losing money on gamepass. But they have big pockets.

They're using their deep pockets to force Sony into an uncomfortable position.

And Sony will still annihilate them :D

Yea maybe.  Sony's obviously paying attention though... they've delayed pricing pretty much as long as they can now... these things have to go on pre-order soon.  If Sony was that confident they would have already announced all this stuff, imo.

We talm 'bout confidence?

Xbox running their games on PC's.

Sony's making sure they get in production due to the fact that TSMC is getting hammered with orders and Covid19 affecting things...

Those consoles will sell... but it doesn't mean they're more confident than they were before.. they're just getting in orders while they can

Sony can't, Xbox can and will outlast all of them. No one has the available capital or infrastructure to follow them.

We're talking a company worth 15x Nintendo and Sony combined. There's no vertical trajectory for Sony, they don't have the means.
