Playstation Tablet 1,857
- No longer sounds like a Switch Pro but a Switch 2/Switch 4k based on what was learned, it all depends on how the marketing presents the product - 4k will be achieved through DLSS - Big publishers/developers got the devkits late 2020 with smaller ones getting them this year - As of right now it is not naively BC with the Switch 1 due to it being different hardware and lacking TX1, but there are ways around it, depends on what Nintendo will do - Devs are working on exclusives, some PS/Xbox ports - Devs are targeting their games being "done" by late 2022, but a game being done doesn't necessarily mean thats when it releases for various reasons. - Hears it will release within Holiday 2022 - Early 2023 period, within those 6 months (supply constraints make it hard to know exactly when it is possible, meaning could miss holiday season)

That was one of the goals with unifying everything under one system, and sticking with NVIDIA moving forward. Where when you by a new Switch you have access to all the previous games day 1. Nate does not say that he has heard from developers that Nintendo isn't pursuing backwards compatibility, merely that dataminers have brought up the legitimate challenges that native BC faces due to hardware differences for the 4K/Succ. MVG then provides options for what Nintendo might pursue to rectify this such as patches. The OP has been updated to clarify this. jehurey 3,318
It could mean that the new hardware simply doesn't have baked-in features to make Switch 1 games run better by default. But I have a hard time believing that Nintendo switched over to nVidia's own development tools and won't be able to have backwards compatibility when running on newer nVidia hardware. hope this year delay gives Nintendo/nVidia a little more time to bump up the specs, or refine the architecture. I mean, they should definitely implement their own G-sync to work with the display. It would actually help with how much wattage the display uses if the game has dips below the screen's standard refresh rate.
TLHBO 2,299
There’s always so much bullshit with these there isn’t much point in taking any of it serious until it’s official.

WiiU backwards compatibility was irrelevant and didn't support discs, but its a lot more relevant to a system selling as much as Switch has especially when the competition are all in on BC. It would be a big oversight

jehurey 3,318
apparently, somebody opened up the dock from the new OLED model, and the Realtek chip on there is one that can handle 4K signal output. And the package came with a HDMI 2.0 cable instead of a typical 1.4 cable.
