Sony announces a State of Play scheduled for June 2nd

Recommended Posts

It's gonna be really fucking hard to buy into another generation of PSVR tbh. I already have a Quest 2, which is great because it's NOT tethered to my living room.  And Valve is likely to announce a standalone Quest competitor based on SteamOS which will probably surpass PSVR and Meta.

It'll be up to Playstation Studios to make great VR exclusives to sell another headset. I don't think Sony's track record is putting their best people on peripherals/handhelds.

Way too early to even consider PSVR2 imo. Will check out the state of play but not expecting much if anything. The blog says 3rd party reveals + PSVR2 so doesn't seem any major first party PS5 games. I assume that stuff will be saved for a later showcase.

Also could also be our first look at RE4 Remake.

This isn't a showcase man.. I'd temper expectations :whoa:

But I'd be glad to be wrong :obama:

“Exciting” third party reveals. The only other thing I could think of is a 2022 release date drop for FFXVI, which is entirely possible. Game is in the final steps and going to be incredible. :lawd:

Looks like there may actually be a Resident Evil 4 Remake announcement after all.

People are speculating because Capcom is having a Resident Evil franchise sale right now.  Kinda lines up.

Between 2017 and 2020, I'd say that the best most high-production VR games came out for the PSVR, a good chunk of them were exclusive to it.

Sony has the best track record in supporting their VR headset, even better than the Meta Quest games that Meta moneyhatted thus far.

And Valve hardware?:drake: I wouldn't trust them in the slightest. Unlike Meta/Facebook, they're not going to sell their hardware at a loss. So, a Valve VR headset with its own internal mobile processor may be twice as powerful as a Quest 2, but they'll be charging more than 3 times the price. And its build quality is going to be absolute shit, if the Valve Index is any indication. Dynocrap was not exaggerating when he said he bought TWO Valve Index units because his VR Breakdancing (:tom:) required him to replace parts because it was falling apart due to the sweat. I actually followed up on videos of people confirming that Valve Index has much worse build quality than the Quest 2.

The PSVR2's Eye-Tracking Foveated Rendering, integrated with their developer tools, is going to be the killer feature. It is what is going to allow them to achieve PS5-level graphics at 90Hz in their VR headset.

Geoff Keighley's summer of gaming stream is next week. Im guessing there probably won't be too much shown here so Sony can save some stuff for it. That stream is pretty much going to be the closest thing to the typical E3 press conferences this year.

You're wrong about Valve hardware, but we'll be lucky if we only have to wait 3 years for them to prove it.

I definitely agree that PlayStation supported PSVR better than FB, and probably will support PSVR2 as well. That's the best chance they have. Unfortunately for Sony, 80% of VR is porn and PlayStation is a lousy platform for it. Anything with a wire loses.

Oculus/FB/Meta has some decent standalone games, and it sucks they don't have more considering the hardware is actually selling. Their PC/AAA connectivity fucked right now. They ought to scrap it and just make an easier pipe into SteamVR. But to their credit, Quest 2 is a good porn device.

Or hear me out…it’s just going to be the announcement of the PS5/XSX versions of 2/3. :kaz:
