Xbox hardware revenue down 42%, content and services up by 61% last quarter (RIP Xbox, TLHBFR!)

Recommended Posts

Activision is basically carrying the entire Xbox division since the consoles are dead. Nothing to stop MS from going fully multiplatform now :cruise:

:kaz:  Wasn't Xbox hardware already down in revenue last quarter by almost 50% too?  The shit is in free fall. Without the revenue from COD on Playstation  and PC their overall revenue would be down.

MS had to spend $80 billion on Activision to prevent their gaming division from completely dying :rawf:

Microsoft just posted the fourth and final quarter of its 2024 fiscal financial results. The software maker made $64.7 billion in revenue and a net income of $22 billion during Q4. Revenue is up 15 percent, and net income has increased by 10 percent.
Xbox content and services revenue, which includes Xbox Game Pass, is up by 61 percent this quarter. Activision Blizzard revenues have once again contributed to the majority of revenue here, with 58 points of net impact. Without Activision Blizzard revenues, Xbox content and services revenue will still have been up three percent year over year.
Despite the poor Xbox hardware revenue, gaming revenue at Microsoft is up 44 percent overall, helped again by the additional Activision Blizzard revenue. In fact, that revenue added 48 points, so overall gaming revenue at Microsoft would have been down four percent if the company hadn’t acquired Activision Blizzard.
While there’s a lot of anticipation for new games on Xbox Game Pass, console sales are still struggling. Xbox hardware revenue is down a massive 42 percent this quarter. Microsoft is planning to launch a discless Xbox Series X console in white later this year, alongside a new Galaxy Black special edition Xbox Series X.

The hardware is dead.  It's over.  They'll keep the console on life support for gamepass subs.. but people know it's past the point of return now for any next gen hardware.  The trust is gone.

They might cut out a decent niche with the handheld assuming they dont fuck it up.

The handheld market will not be easy competition for them either.  They COULD do something cool... but they wont.

This is just confirmation of 3rd party and they can’t do it without PlayStation. The whole slate is coming.

Ironically, the more games they bring to PlayStation the more Xbox will decline and continue to become more and more irrelevant :cruise:

The death of the Xbox console brand is irreversible at this point :lawl:

True, there's no future in any kind of Xbox hardware or streaming. The brand is radioactive :kaz:

58% of their content and services came from their $70B purchase. Xbox is dead as fuck. :lul:

Bbbbbut the years leading up to launch I was assured that series X would be king :feelsbadman:

Not only the lemmings were rabid but the MS team itself had a renewed fanboyish attitude when discussing their console in the press and seemingly internally too.

Remember Phil's "thank you for indulging me" email?

:mj:

Sony has had a quiet gen but the Xbox has decided to just fuck itself for it.

Xbox could have been in a much better position than they are.  They just failed to execute on pretty much everything

Anyway.. investors are now asking questions about Xbox at their MS meetings, and Satya Nadella straight up said they're focusing more on PC now, and cloud and that they see Xbox as a software business lol
