Update, August 1, 11:20 PT: Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier shared some context around the canceled Destiny project, saying it was never a “Destiny 3” but rather a spinoff title that was canceled a while ago.

“Just to clear up some rumors floating around, Destiny 3 was not canceled because it was never in development, per people familiar. Bungie did some very early work on a spinoff project called Payback, but they canceled that a while ago. I’ll have a story tomorrow with more info“

It’s all damage control, lmfao.

this news broke the DAY after bungie switched CEOs.

the people let go were working on this title, if it was cancelled “a while ago” (Amy time within the last year) it was still Sony’s doing :hehe:

This is really just not sustainable for the games industry. You can be contributing to an incredibly successful franchise and still end up losing your job or having other games you worked on get cancelled.

A few years from now publishers won't invest in anything interesting. We're just going to get more remasters and live service games than ever before.

Nah, all games are just going multi platform. That will be the first step.  Then price increases or reductions in budget. Or they’ll move entirely to subscription based to sustain revenue.

this is why i mainly buy indie games, even if they are available of GP.

Bungie was a massive waste of money holy shit. No wonder MS let them go. Bungie runs Halo into the ground then runs themselves into the ground.

RIP Bungie

Didn’t Destiny 2 generate some of the highest revenue this year so far? :interesting:

Cuckstz with another backfire thread. Jason Schrier completely debunks the premise of this shitty thread.

It was never Destiny 3 but DLC instead  :kaz:

I'm happy that shit was cancelled and Bungie is getting restructured. They've been rotting for years due to bad leadership and Sony said, enough is enough and has taken full control.  Similar to the way MS has taken full control of the Xbox division and is forcing all their games on Playstation now. You love to see it :cruise:
