Big mergers and acquisitions, then a rush, and inevitably the need for growth. Just like with movies, eventually it becomes dirt cheap movies with good returns or high budget films with big box office and outside revenue stream potential. It's why the past 15 years has seen the rise of comic book and horror genres. Disney has whored out Marvel, Star Wars, and their pre-existing IPs and the Blum House movies can be made quickly and cheaply and have a built in fanbase now.
