Unreal Engine 5.5 Megalights Tech Demo - Running on PS5

That's because you can't appreciate what's happening here..  This is an entirely dynamic scene.. completely different on a computational level than anything in SotTR :D 

 

This is an absolutely incredible demo, and it's running on a base PS5.  This is Epic basically getting as close to virtualized lighting as you can at the moment.  This type of stuff should have been years out, and yet here we are.  Obviously it will take some time to trickle down to games and gameplay.. but the fact that it's all running in real-time as it is is a huge achievement.

 

Oh and Unreal 5.5 finally brings Nanite to skinned meshes... meaning basically everything can be Nanite-based now.  These a huge improvements, and finally the promise of the engine is beginning to be realized.

I mean for fuck sake. It’s pretty insane this is even running on a PS5. I understand Epic and Sony have a partnership, but to not see the difference. It’s impressive. Hopefully it translates into actual games.
