  1. the loot drops less frequently. but do you find that the loot is more useful?  my friend mentioned he picked up 3 legendary items on his first play through.

No it drops much more frequently (it's been widely said among the press), and I question what your friend said becasue I picked up around 30 legendies during my first playthrough. Yes I did prioritize "increase magic drop" when picking equipment, but still.
  2. After talking trash about Diablo III, I got sucked into to. My first playthrough using the Wizard was way too easy on the normal difficulty setting and it really hurt the experience. On my second playthrough I notched up the difficulty, played as the Amazon + Assassin (I forget what they're calling him/her--Demon Hunter?), and it suddenly became fun.

It's still monotonous, it's too long, and I still think the environments should've been much more diverse and unique, but to me Diablo's always been the evolution of Smash TV, and I like that arcadey formula.

I also gotta say I think it plays much better with a controller. It's obviously a trade-off between direct control over movement versus direct control over aiming (and the console version doesn't have auto-aim; it has very sticky aim assist), and I'll take the former almost every time when it comes to an action game. The one thing Blizzard should've done is make the controls fully customizable so I could play the Demon Hunter, who's a shooter character, with a twin stick setup. That would've been ideal for that character.

I also think it's great that they jumped up the loot drop rate so much for the console version. It's like Blizzard understands that console gamers have more of a life than PC gamers and they don't want to grind for ages to get legendaries. Instead they get one every 15 to 30 minutes later in game. Much more fun.

  3. I just beat Diable 3 for the first time (I played the 360 version), and I know I'm a year late but man was it disappointing.

The level themes are all vanilla (forest, desert, blahblahblah), there weren't any memorable monsters like the pygmy witch doctors from Diablo 2, and they shouldn't have dumbed down character customization because it makes an already simple game feel too simple. It felt like a textbook example of a soulless, corporate sequel.

I like playing it with the controller though.

So I'm 5 hours into chrono trigger. It's good, and I like all the different times (and events that have happened) that you explore. I don't love it though. Does it get better as it progresses?

The story does get better. Other than that, the game doesn't evolve much in terms of gameplay, you'll get a ship that allow you to travel to different time as you wish and you'll learn new double/triple techs, get more party members. Eh I'll keep playing. While a charming game, the gameplay feels so blah. The techs are cool, but I'm not that big on the combat. I can only play the game in like 30 minute chunks.

I played it for the first time early this year and that was my take on it too. I lasted about 6 hours before quitting.

  5. Got Fire Emblem for $20, got that $30 credit too was thinking of getting dream team. For those who have played it, is it as good as BiS?

I like Dream Team quite a bit more than BIS because I think has a much better overworld (I thought BIS' overworld was often boring) along with better graphics (to me the 3D graphics and 3D effect brings the world to life a lot more), more happens inbetween the start and finish of the story, and it has a great soundtrack. The first few hours aren't as strong as BIS, Fawful's a better bad guy, and its a bit bloated though.

Unless you have really different opinions on each of the Mario & Luigi games--like you think BIS is great but PIT sucks--I don't think you can go wrong with DT if you've liked all the previous M&L games.
  6. I just finished M&L Dream Team, and I really liked it but man it was long for a Mario RPG. Too long. And some of the boss fights were also too long. And the main plot never took off.

But it's really good about introducing new mechanics the whole way through, it's a lot more ambitious than Bowser's Inside Story, its really playable, and the dialogue is better and more frequent than BIS too.

So what classic RPG should I play next. Earthbound was FANTASTIC. It ended a little quickly though IMO, and you didn't get as much time with Poo, and I wasn't a huge fan of how fragmented your players levels would end up being. But....fantastic game. I need that Mother 3 to come on Wii U VC.

    Now long was it?

I'm playing Attack of the Friday Monsters from Level 5's Guild series on the 3DS. It's an adventure game with a Gibli vibe. You play as a kid in suburbs of Tokyo during the early 70s, and the story is mystery about whether or not the town is being visited by aliens and giant monsters.

It's built like an old-style RE game with prerendered backgrounds so it looks nice. The problem is the gameplay is incredibly thin. You basically just walk around and talk to NPCs and collect cards that you use to occasionally play a basic rock-paper-scissors game with the NPCs. That's it so far and I'm nearing the end.

It's thin even for a Guild game.

looks interesting. how much is it?

$8 and it's around 3 hours long. If money's an issue at all, I wouldn't do it.

SMT IV is pretty obnoxious with wiping your party out if the enemy gets the initiative and the way monsters randomly spawn around you. I don't know if I want to play this much longer.

    How far are you?

I barely started. I just got to the demon fusion tutorial. lol

I'm always this way when I start a JRPG. It usually takes me 10 hours to get into one.

  10. I finally got in the mood to play Luigi's Mansion 2 and plowed through it. I really liked it aside from some moderate criticisms like the bosses needed more personality, the puzzles are little too rote (when in doubt scan the walls with your black light), and constantly getting zapped in and out of the houses hurt the atmosphere a little. Otherwise it was well put together.
