StarVR is finally becoming a reality

Recommended Posts

It's $3,200 for a developer headset right now but it actually exists and can be purchased.

If anyone is unaware this headset has dual 1830x1464 AMOLED displays at 90hz (3660x1464 total resolution, 75% of 4K) with 130° vertical FoV and a 210° horizontal FoV. Current headsets (Vive, Rift, PSVR are 100-110° FoV on both axis'.

Basically it covers your entire field of vision, everything you see is screen. If they can get this down to $1,000 for a consumer version they will definitely have something here.

If the horizontal FOV is so wide, will they have an issue with visual information from the sides overlapping with the other screen, and if it doesn't line up properly, it could be conflicting visual data that your brain can't compile correctly?

Maybe alignment with the distance from your eyes is going to be more important on this headset than others.

No because it's not spanning all the way around, it's spanning from side to side completely as if you have your arms fully stretched out. It's acting within the range of human vision capability.

You will essentially have peripheral vision with this headset whereas the current availability is tunnel vision.
