Metro Exodus: a vision for the future of graphics technology

The PC version of Metro Exodus is a genuine game-changer for graphics technology - a vision of the way in which developers can take real-time rendering to the next level. In some respects, it is this generation's Crysis moment - where the current state of the art is pushed to its limits, and where we see an aggressive push to deliver a taste - and maybe more - of next generation graphics.

TB stop moving goal posts and being wrong at each new turn. PC ports used to be broken as fuck, now they are almost always better going by human eyes and DF if you want more official citation.  Now go run along with your 30 fps on low/med night which is a day difference.

Remij, you can keep making excuses about development time and budget constraints but that’s smoke and mirrors. If the market was there, studios would be able to partner with hardware manufacturers to put out games that would make people excited about pc gaming again. There are so many reasons why it’s a shadow of its former self

    - it will never get another shooter on the level of BF2, HL2, CSS, or Crysis

-it will never get another RTS on the level of Company of Heroes or World in Conflict

-it will never get another MMO on the level of World of Warcraft

-When was the last time a PC exclusive actually got people excited and generated a lot of hype? If a new Half Life couldn’t do it, then nothing will.
-When was the last time a PC exclusive won GOTY or was even discussed in the same group as other game of the year contenders?
-Remember when studios used to develop for PC and then port to console? Now it’s the opposite. Every new multiplat has less and less exclusive features or bells and whistles on PC to make that version more interesting

    - When was the last time a PC focused conference or event got anyone excited like people get excited for the yearly Sony,MS, and Nintendo E3 conferences?

    - Guess how many PC exclusives have been able to join the top 50 on meta critic in the past few generations. I counted 1 last time I checked.
-When was the last time people saw a PC exclusive and thought ‘wow, this is going to make my new build worth it’ or even encouraged people to buy new hardware?

The glory days of PC gaming are over. It’s no surprise you put so much time and energy into port begging, because if not for those occasional PS ports PortC gaming would barely be a blip on anyone’s radar. That and almost identical looking multiplats are all anyone plays on their expensive $2000 PCs.

There’s no soul to PC gaming anymore.

Will you continue to ignore PC won Gen8 according to old SW, Side-Scroller, SW2, and this SW  meta-game standards?  You lost the factual argument on library numbers, and now you've moved on to subjective arguments. As expected.

I want you to know you lost that debate before we continue down these goal post moves. Kind of tired of goal post moving by you. Lost on library lost on gfx, now you're on to this fuzzy "bu bu exclusive GOTY!" BS.

Having stated those facts, let me indulge your bullshit:

    1. No system will get a shooter on those levels. That's a gaming industry issue. Either way, controller with fps = lol. Low fps with FPS  = lol. Scumbag.

    2. PC still gets great RTS/TBS, that is your opinion.

    3. No system will ever get a MMO on the level of WoW, but Legion was pretty fucking good. Still an opinion. Industry issue.

    4. The industry changed, PC isn't part of the direct competition. It's its own beast (with the highest revenue). It doesn't get many exclusives made for it alone as there is no reason for the developer to keep the game on PC, on the flip side it gets most of PS4 and XBs games and those 2 system barely get exclusives (% wise) as there is no reason not to give their games to PC. It's a trade off that has resulted in PC getting the largest gen total library ever. Does the gamer care if his game can be played on 1 or 2 other systems, or that he gets the most and best version of games?

    5.  ^See the above.

    6. Why are you lying. PC multiplats get more bells and whistles than ever before. The PC version of multiplats are literally the best they've ever been, they used to be broken as fuck. This is golden era stuff. Fuck off liar.

    7. The 2020 XB and PS events WERE PC events....almost all of thier games were played on PC you dolt. This is what I'm talking about, PC traded exclusives (apart from mmo, rts, tbs, sim) for a fuckton of raw games. Which is better for the gamer.

    8. Don't bring up MC, PC has over a 100 game lead vs. the second next system for Gen8. You suck at this.

    9. The industry changed, PC isn't part of the competition. It doesn't get exclusives, on the flip side it gets most of PS4 and XBs games and those 2 system now barely get exclusives (% wise). It's a trade off that has resulted in the most AAA/AA totals in history for a system (PC).

*10. Why are you ignoring the fact PC has by far the best online? There isn't as many active or competitive games on consoles, and the esports scenes are essentially dead in comparison. Much smaller communities and streamers as well.

**11. I haven't bothered to tally exclusives (because who gives a fuck anymore), because  a much smaller % of games this gen are exclusive for xb/ps/pc. But I actually think PC pulls ahead for 8 and above on those as well.

The glory days of PC are now bigger than ever, which is why it has the most gaming software and gaming hardware revenue than any other system (2-3x more than each). It now gets special treatment, being given the most high scoring and big budget games than it ever received in history. Many of these are not ports, the ones that are have special features and are significantly better on it.

According to Digital Foundry these games are not identical most of the time. This is a flat out lie, and I can only imagine you have eye problems.

There is no soul to console gaming. I remember when XB had exclusives. I remember when more than 5% of PS library was exclusive. Now they all go to PC and are MUCH better played on PC. All while PC retains it's own awesome exclusives in near exclusive genres while being THE bastion for online gaming, with the best gfx and performance.  Consoles are just cheaper shittier PCs with much smaller libraries and laughable online, and low frames with poor gfx for most of the gen.

You want the best you pay more.

Except the only games in those genres still being made are on consoles. The only exception is MOBAs

Every other game is being made for consoles, or is being reworked to support controllers.

Remember strategy games like World in Conflict or Company of Heroes? When was the last time PC got a game like that? Those were actually 2 of my favorite PC games.

    1. And many of games in those genres are still excursive on PC. You missed the "most" part.

    2. So? And even more console games are being made for PC. XB has no exclusives. PS hand a handful.  Welcome to the gaming industry.

    3. PC still gets exclusive TBS/RTS/MMO/MOBA.

Theres nothing to look forward to on PC anymore except multiplats. It lacks the killer apps that people buy Switches, PS4s, and other consoles for.

Theres nothing to look forward to PC except for getting the most games. What a great problem to have. More than any other system. AAA/AA. Indy or Big Budget.

What is the problem here? How is this a bad thing?  Also why didn't you list XBX? Do MS exclusives not exist? Why are you living in an arbitrary pretend world where games that are only on PC and XB do not get counted in library lists?

You have to literally make up internet rules that have 0 real life basis to pretend PC is bad, when it's getting more great games than ever because Sony and MS love it.

You are such a blind fanboy :D

Counting a flat 8+ scoring tally like we have done at the end of every Gen is being a blind fanboy?...........

That's literally the purest form of library wars. No made up rules. No caveats. No fanboy bullshit where you exclude a game that was only on 2 systems. Which system had the most high scoring titles, very simple. As unbiased as it gets.

I think you're losing your mind or something. Are you trolling? Add as many arbitrary non-real life effecting rules you want, PC won with a huge margin. You can live in some fake world where "console exclusives" that are playable on PC suddenly don't count all you want. That's never going to be a thing in real life. These are actual games on the system.

  5. 3 minutes ago, Twinblade said:

Imagine if there were PC exclusive games built for all those $500 video cards people have. Diminishing returns would be less of a factor  :yeshrug:

Unless it's a genre that doesn't work well on controllers (most rts/moba/mmo/tbs/sim) there is no reason not to put the game on consoles as well. It's profit and not in competition.....

IT's the same reason PC gets the most games from the other way around....

You're confused in terms of the state of the industry.

  6. 9 minutes ago, Twinblade said:

Control lol....have fun using your cutting edge PC to play slightly better looking multiplats (like everyone else uses it for) while you wait for the next game on the level of Crysis

Nah. I'll take having  far more GFX KING contenders, exponentially better online,  and having substantially more AAA/AA (yes, that also includes more big budget titles - so you can't even cry about Indies anymore).   Gaming is my hobby, so I'd rather not bullshit skimp on it.   Asking someone to give up on better gfx, much higher fps, and almost a hundred more high scoring games just for 3 or 4 non-gamer movie games after 8 years is demented.

Also according to DF (and eyes) it's not "slightly" for most of this gens best games.

The games you posted don't compare at all visually.

Are you fucking kidding me, lmao.

Each end of year video of Digital Foundry after UC4 says a new game(s) are now the best looking. Not UC4 still. No one ever mentioned UC4 each subsequent year after it came out. A quick look at any direct-feed gameplay UC4 shot will show you why. The ONLY PS4 game they ever nut-hugged was HZD, but only the year it came out. It was surpassed as well - and it'll look best on PC anyway.

Control PC: a vision for the future of real-time rendering?

    This is simply 100% factual.

That's your opinion, and a highly contrarian one at that.

PC was gfx king this gen, and it will be gfx king next gen.  Don't be a crazy Cow. With how behind PS5 tech is, I wouldn't expect any game in the top 10. PS4 has 2 this gen.

  8. 8 minutes ago, Twinblade said:

If you ask ANYONE building a PC what games they want to play on it, 95% of them will be multiplats.

I don't get what the problem here is. All of XB games are multiplats now as well.

If PC has 400 playable high scoring games and system P has 300 high scoring playable games, what does it matter?

You seem like your making up arbitrary reasons as to why PC didn't win Gen 8 and doesn't have the best library this gen.  Also PC's most played genres are exclusive genres or made on PC first....(BR/MOBA/MMO)

By the way this whole trend of XB and PS giving PC it's games  (but not to each other) is increasing, so expect PC to win next gen as well. With bigger margins.

Post a PC exclusive game that looks better than this

Post in game direct feeds. Not a 600x200 gif. I gave you a list of PC games that look far better.

Why are you using UC4 when there are better looking games on XBX.

P.S. I'm holding back, bigly. if I include Nintendo Emulation you're fucked. PC goes from by far best, to "eat shit and die."

  9. 18 minutes ago, Twinblade said:

Shit, Is there even anything on there that looks as good as Uncharted 4?:D

Are you kidding? UC4 isn't even the best looking console game. Legit RDR2 on XBX looks way better, and with larger spaces. That's old bait, why didn't you at least bait with God of War 5? Oh right, DF couldn't even call it the best of it's year, much less the gen.

PC ULTRA: Control. Metro. BF1. BF2. RoTR, Forza, Battlefront 2. RDR2. Gears  V. and many more etc.

    It's not even close.

Explain? Every major PC game in the last 10-15 years has come to consoles. You guys rarely get any noteworthy exclusives anymore.

    Sure I'll explain.

    1. But these games do not go to every console. IE: MS Exclusives (Gears 5) or Sony Exclusives (Bloodborne). PC quite literally is getting the most big budget games, bar none, due to this "little" loop-hole.

    2. Exclusive TBS, Sim, MMO, RTS, MOBA, exist and count. No matter your opinion on these awesome genres.

Go to MC or GS and count each 8.0-10.0 release from each system from 2012 to 2020.  When you're done get back to me so you can apologize. By any known SW measure PC decimated Gen 8.

so your pc is 5x the price of xbx and cant even double performance LMAO

According to DF I decimate XBX games.  I'm not playing on med/low at low fps. Sorry.  Hard to give up Ultrawide now as well.

Also there is this thing called online and games library, I want good version of those too.

    Prove it. Owned

In fact I have a hard time finding a face off article with PC where PC isn't the clear winner.

    GTA,

Every version to date has impressed, but in the PC's case we have the true pack leader, and its GPU benchmarks at peak settings are sure to give upcoming GPUs firm workout. More than that, Rockstar's multi-platform wizardry here sets a high bar of expectation for whatever project it pursues next.

    Gaylo,

The remade graphics scale rather well to 4K, the system requirements are not onerous - and crucially, it is a more than worthy replacement for the 2007 PC release. Let's hope an even better turn-out from the upcoming Halo 3.

    TOW,

. It's The Outer Worlds on Switch but it's nowhere near the quality of any other version and in this case, portability isn't enough to save the day. I recognise the huge challenges facing the team on this one and I respect the effort put it into it, but the end result doesn't hold up and I can't recommend it.

    Metro,

Metro Exodus: The Two Colonels is the first piece of DLC released by 4A Games and for PC users at least, an already state-of-the-art, forward-looking rendering implementation is pushed on to the next level

    Gears,

Gear 5's PC port is a remarkable piece of work. In fact, in my opinion, it's very, very close to being one of the best PC conversions of all-time.

    Control,

it's Remedy Entertainment's PC version of Control that's our genuine contender in the triple-A space.

    HR,

Overall though, while the conversion work is hardly revelatory, the PC version of Heavy Rain is a welcome release. It liberates the game from the console environment, and ensures it will run on an open and ever-improving platform. It looks better than the PS4 version and has the benefit higher resolutions and frame-rates.

    Rage,

The good news is that PC can power past any and all of the limitations found on the consoles - but expect GPU hardware requirements to scale rapidly the higher up the resolution chain you go.

    Sekiro,

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is best played on PC

    Division 2,

. A lot of the best upgrades are of course found on PC. Firstly, yes, the texture streaming issue is largely minimised or removed, and equally, ambient occlusion at max settings gives us far less dithering on the plants ahead. Even shadow maps from range are higher quality too, though the improvement is not radical. The volumetric lighting- notably on light shafts - also runs at a higher resolution overall. One major aspect here that consoles clearly miss out on is the capacity for 60fps gameplay

    Anthem,

And it stands to reason that what's going to be challenging for PC will be even more of a mountain to climb for the consoles
