Here is this N64 controller designed for 3 hands that no one ever copied again... Here is this PlayStation controller with dual analogs setup that literally every other controller after copied and is standard now.

It really is just that. The "mystery port" on Vita was actually a TV output. The Vita had a built in scaler for this exact purpose, but instead they went with the PlayStation TV.

Not to mention, the PSP 2000 also did this and Sony actually sold, albeit briefly, AV cables to output to your TV from your PSP.
