Nintendo's business is probably the main thing keeping Platinum Games alive, at this point. They probably pay them well for developing the game, so that they all stay employed. And who knows if they get additional money based on how much the game sells.

 

And there was a tweet, like back in 2019, in which it was made fairly clear that they are working on some sort of W101 sequel.
