Rumor: PlayStation 5's Bill of Materials have been pushed up to $450 due to scarce NAND and DRAM components

Recommended Posts

Bloomberg PS5 report: https://bloom.bg/2Hp8xZE

• PS5 unit cost $450
• DRAM/NAND shortage causing problems; cancelled camera features
• new PSVR after PS5 launch
• many of PS5 launch games will also be on PS4
• Sony in wait-and-see approach, XboxSX price factor in PS5 price

DRAM? Does that confirm the HBM rumour?

So 399 with a loss it seems.

No..

BOM is $450... at least.  That means final costs are MORE than that.

No.. none of this confirms HBM.

Yeah retailer cut, shipping, production, marketing. $500 incoming. Zhuge said he expects a similiar BOM for X.

If $500 is the default anticapated price, and they still havent decided though, lower than $500 is on the table if necessary.

"Surprisingly, there is no mention of Microsoft and its Xbox Series X console in this reporting. Microsoft's console also uses many high-end components, and its price is not expected to be as low as the One X or One S, which remain as options for consumers. Indeed, one report says that Series X's SSD may actually be DRAM-less – a first in this market – which could help Microsoft skirt this supply issue, at least partially. The solution for Microsoft, which is unconfirmed, is the reliance on Phison's newer PS5019-E19T flash memory controller."
