They privatized their power grid so that it wouldn't be federally regulated and so that they won't have to share power with neighboring states. Now that Texas is in a power crises they can't get power from neighboring states (Karma) and their power grid failed because didn't have the safety measures in place for colder temperatures (this is a federal mandate but Alas they privatized).
