Digital Foundry analyzes new Black Myth Wukong PS5 footage - possibly low resolution and using frame-gen to hit 60, but not stable Thread starterTony72495 Start dateToday at 11:51 AM Gaming Forum 1 of 2Next Last Tony72495 Member Today at 11:51 AM #1 View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zQz8ZQBJSQ0 The footage was originally posted to Bilibili from a Chinese source, before being posted on IGN China's Youtube channel, so the actual footage quality is already poor from simple video compression, Bilibili in particular has poor compression on its videos compared to Youtube. However, Rich was still able to frame analyze the footage by eye (going frame-by-frame) and the results are potentially worrying, image compression aside. The game is targeting 60, but doesn't necessarily hold to it, there are long segments in the 50's, and when a lot of alpha effects appear on screen it can drop into the 30's and 40's. If they are not using low-frame compensation, PS5 would not work with VRR in those drops. More worrying though is that he sees a few artifacts in the video that cannot be ascribed to simple compression artifacts, but instead look very similar to artifacts he's seen testing AMD's FSR 3 frame generation. AMD specifically does not recommend devs use frame gen to go from 30 to 60, it is more a technology that's best used to go from 60 to 120, but if this game uses frame-gen, it does appear to be going from 30 to 60, and it's possible during the drops into the 30's and 40's that the native frame-rate is even lower, in the 20's. The bad thing is, using frame gen to go from 30 to 60, you're going to have a lot of extra artifacts and things that just "don't look quite right". This could be another example of an Unreal Engine 5 title that is really pushing current-gen systems perhaps over their intended limits, but the real test will be when they can finally get their hands on the game in a day or two. Long Ball Larry 1,359
@FIREPOWER you still getting the PS5 version? (wont be able to respond without bringing up Xbox lmfao)
Remij 5,016
Biggest thing I noticed from the PS5 footage was quite a bit of fizzling around the character. That suggests it might be using FSR and not Epic's own TSR.. which isn't great. PS5 Pro would probably solve that with PSSR.
lynux3 2,439
Oh lawd. That’s why it skipped Series Xcluded. It’d be even worse on there. Pro should be good. Edited August 19 by lynux3
JonDnD 3,001
Need a pro to play a game that doesn't look any better than any other good looking game. The problem is UE5. It's a fucking stinker
-GD-X★ 8,299
It looks good, but nothing special. I would have rather this have been made with UE 4. Lies of P was gorgeous and incredibly scalable.
