Well... I'm disappointed as fuck.  They completely ruined this thing for me.  I can't believe I'm saying that as most of the game was great... but the ending and where they are going with this has completely turned me off of the game.  What a bunch of fucking bullshit.

I guess new fans of the series, and more open minded people might be happy... but I'd be lying if I said I was.  Plain and simple.

    For FUCK sakes :shake:

You know what? As a fan of the original too, I can definitely understand that.  But seeing how they managed to perfectly nail the presentation, soundtrack and even combat, I’m staying optimistic that they can still pull off something that do justice to the original. Fuck, I’m grinding some levels to prepare for hard mode but it doesn’t feel like grinding at all cause I’m having so much fun with the combat.

    Ending Spoilers!

Yup! It's a whole new thing now and they make a big point about it with the final line. Which is so awesome because it explains why there wasn't a 'Part 1' attached to the title. I can see the next being called like Final Fantasy VII Rebirth or something like that. I personally love the ending, makes it much more exciting moving forward. They already proved they can retell the story perfectly and even improve it with 95% of that game so what's the point of just going through the story beats over again.

My interpretation was that they possibly did Sephiroth a huge favour. They essentially killed the Whispers who were making sure events transpired as they were meant to. In that timeline Sephiroth knows he couldn't win. This now opens all that up again. Does mean Aerith might not die.....but could also mean they kill Tifa. Either way anticipation for the sequel is sky high now.

My only real main confusion is the Zack stuff at the end. That is clearly another timeline because of the different logo on the bag of chips, but he still saw the explosion that seemed to happen in our game's universe.

    Spoiler

Yup I'm really excited to see how it pans out.  I'm confused regarding Zack as well. Maybe since the crew defeated fate/destiny at the end, it changed the outcome in Zack's timeline as well. And then their timelines converge since Zack survived instead of died?  Anyway I'm probably overthinking this.  I just hope they don't turn it into a convoluted mess like KH.

It's amazing how they've fleshed out and given every character you encounter so much personality. So much style in it's presentation too. They did an unbelievable job on this. Beyond all my expectations.

Word. Every character is surprisingly more likeable than you’d imagine them to be. The story and world is still intriguing. I think they nailed the combat as well, so much fun and style while not losing the tactical aspect. FF7 have so much charm compared to recent FFs like 13 and 15.  Can’t wait to find out how SE will handle the overworld aspect in part 2 once we get out of Midgar. :glad:

What John is saying sounds pretty right to me! I don't want to down play GPU power, but I promise everybody that you will be absolutely blown away by visuals on both consoles. However, the SSDs are the big difference when coming into this gen. We're not talking about "load times" in the classic sense. That's an antiquated way of thinking about data coming from your hard drive. For the last 10+ years we've been streaming worlds on the fly. The problem is that our assets are absolutely huge now, as are our draw distances, and our hard drives can't keep up. It means that as you move through the world we're trying to detect and even predict what assets need loading. Tons of constraints get put into place due to this streaming speed.

An ultra fast drive like the one in PS5 means you could be load in the highest level LOD asset for your models way further than you could before and make worlds any way you want without worry of it streaming in fast enough. The PS5 drive is so fast I imagine you could load up entire neighborhoods in a city with all of their maps at super high resolution in a blink of an eye. It's exciting. People don't realize that this will also affect visuals in a big way. If we can stream in bigger worlds and stream in the highest detail texture maps available, it will just look so much better.

I think the Xbox drive is also good! The PS5 drive is just "dream level" architecture though.

It’s obvious Sony invested in the SSD instead of adding a couple more TFs. Whether it pays off though remains to be seen.

  5. Damn game feels so much smoother the second run. Operator mode only for moving close to target, then immediately switch to punisher mode for attacking. And keep an eye on Atb bar to use abilities often. Still finding it hard to manage other party member at the same time though.

kotaku. wtf am I even reading. Sad part is Twinblade will still post his review on release and take their word as gospel as to how it apparently is not great after all

Did you have ATB meter? Abilities cost meter.

The AI in particular is very bad with managing ATB so you have to babysit the AI a lot. There really needs to be an option that lets you tweak the AI behavior sort of like the Tales games allow you to. Because right now the AI acts like an idiot with it's meter.

Oh I didn't even notice the Atb bar tbh. I was playing it like an action game. Will get back to it again later today.

The demo itself was good, but i did have trouble guarding and dodging attacks. Its not that those mechanics are clunky or unresponsive, instead it feels like theres a delay in which you need to allow the animation to play out. For example hitting R1 doesn't seem to immediately put you in the guard state, you need to wait a second before Cloud will actually block attacks.

I like to spam the attack button while going into command to use ability/magic/item but they are often gray out cause Cloud is in an attack animation. When i hit r2 to get Barret to do something the command is gray out too cause I think he is in an attack animation lmao.
