Nintendo Co. plans to debut an upgraded model of its Switch console next year along with a lineup of new games, people familiar with the matter said, ceding 2020’s holiday spotlight to rival devices from Sony Corp. and Microsoft Corp.

The specifications of the new machine have yet to be finalized, though the Kyoto-based company has looked into including more computing power and 4K high-definition graphics, people briefed on the strategy told Bloomberg News, asking not to be identified because it’s private.

The release of the upgraded Switch would be coupled with, or followed by, a slew of games from Nintendo itself and related outside studios, the people said. Those games would address a wide range of players, from casual gamers seeking small doses of escapism to more devoted fans putting in marathon gaming sessions. The focus on next year’s pipeline explains Nintendo’s relatively quiet software release schedule so far this year, the people said.

    4K Switch :blessed:

I think they'd need a whole group of handheld only focused studios to do something in order to compete on that level, but it'd take years to pull something off like that just like it took years to establish their studios they have now. I don't expect to ever see another Sony handheld again and if we do it'll be some 5G shit for PlayStation Now, fuck that. No way 3rd parties would jump on board just like they don't on Switch; it'd end up being an indie machine.

Yea pretty much. Sony had the right idea but realistically only Nintendo could pull it off.

    Vita :aitch:

What a godly handheld. It was basically a Switch before the Switch without any meaningful first party support. They had the right idea for playing those games on a TV, but they segregated it by creating Vita TV. They should have gone the PSP route by making a cable or dock for TV support.

It's a neat idea back in the day but I think only Nintendo can pull off this level of success with the Switch since they can leverage their strength in the handheld market. Sony would never be able to pull it off unless they put all their resources on the PSP/Vita and somehow convince 3rd parties to do the same..not gonna happen.

  4. Handheld is where it's at for classic JRPGs.  Though I bought the Switch version of FF9 and regretted it. The sharp characters on blurry compressed backgrounds look so jarring. The best place to play PS1 classics is on the Vita. Ability of turn off bilinear filter and the small OLD screen make them look clean and crisp.

  5. Switch 340k
    PS4 150k
    XB1 17k

Switch is just a monster. PS4 barely hanging on, and Xbox One is fucking dead.

For reference, Switch sales in japan is higher than the US (419K during the same period). While everything not Switch is just dead in Japan.

  6. It's better than I expected tbh.  There are still 27.6% who are all in no matter what. If we ignore those who do not have any interest in XSX at all, Halo's delay impacted about 40% of those who had intended to buy an XSX at launch, about 60% is still all in no matter what.

  7. I'm really impressed with the performance of Nintendo games. With digital I think Nintendo games would dominate the top 10 just like most other country in the world right now. Never could have imagined Nintendo achieving success at this scale. Even at the height of the Wii and DS, Nintendo never dominate software sales like this.

Well he had access to RE8 info. He also leaked the DMC5 and RE7 next generation remaster. Hopefully his Silent Hill leak is true.

He's a cool insider but he's probably not educated on hardware and working in marketing for capcom.

Yeah, but I mean if the reason he's sharing these is because he felt things were getting too one sided, it tells a lot about his tendency to paint things he heard in a certain light.  And when probed deeper, he just admitted he's not educated enough to understand what the fuck he's talking about.

You guys are seriously weird :ben:

Got is a game that follows a very familiar template used by most modern open world games. But unlike other open world games it’s the most fun to play to me because the combat system is modeled closely after character action games, and it does it very well. Not perfect, though. But it’s something people  have always wanted especially people like me who’s a massive fan of character action games . Majority of people outside of this thread agree on this point.

Games like Spider-Man and Batman are really fun but they’re ultimately button mashers. GTAV, RDR2 and the Witcher 3 gameplay = lol. Great everything except for combat. I really don’t care if the mission design or story is great if actually playing it sucks. Watch dogs 2 was pretty good but it’s a pretty basic modern 3rd person shooter through and through.

Writing is pretty dry, plot is pretty straightforward, with Just enough twists and set pieces to keep you interested.

there’s a lot to critique with got, but it gets the fundamental aspect most games of this type fail miserably at, the combat. Which is so far ahead of any other game of this type it’s pretty ridiculous. Unless there’s a gane I’m missing in which case I’m all ears. Also if you’re not playing it in Hard or Lethal, you’re missing a lot of the intensity the combat actually provides

Yeah GOT probably has the best combat in an open world game. Switching between stances is a really good way to ensure that combat doesn't get old. Didn't really care much for the story although there are some intriguing moments. I think I would prefer it to be a linear game because all I wanted to do is to clear enemies and unlock skills/stances. I just got to Act 2, saw this huge unexplored map and turn it off. There's a reason I tend to play open world games very slowly.
