Game Informer head: ' Rumours before the show are the PS5 is the more powerful console next gen ' - #XBOXDEAD

The XBox SAD killed the Lokchart. MS probably didn't expect a 200 dollar console to sell less than their X model that's twice as expensive.

You can thank this thing for killing Lockhart. SAD also killed any chance if a digital only console from MS, probably ever again.

The two SKU approach was only justified assuming Anaconda outpowered the PS5 in some way, which is clearly doesn't seem to have.

Basically MS shat the bed here all around.

Oh wow a few things 3 days before the conference, sounds like some guys we should trust for information 24 months out...

Dumb.

The APUs are finalized. If Sony went for a bigger APU then only thing MS can do is overclock, and that could be problematic. It's a simple as that. Clocks and cooling aren't finalized, but MS isn't redesigning the APU add more CUs or make it bigger.

If either of the sides fucked up, it's over by now, it's going to be tweaks now not redesigns. We don't know who will lose, but there is little either of them can do at this point.

So the SOC is around 360mm for Scarlett it seems, X size. If Sony went for a bigger SOC, they are going all out here, there is no way MS would anticipate Sony given the history to spend that much, possibly expected 400 as well.

I don't think we know that for sure? Weren't those boards shots from an Xbox One X?

If MS went for a two model approach initially, you take less of a bit on the more expensive premium model. They probably expected PS5 to be cheaper than Anaconda so they had the win.

But if Sony has one model at the same pricing and is taking a hit on it, they obviously win.

I stand by the two model approach being the ORIGINAL plan that got changed for various reasons.

There's still a chance that the lower end model will still appear. The Halo Infinite press release mentions "consoles" when referring to Project Scarlett.

I think this is a Killzone Shadow fall moment when Guerilla didn't even know PS4 would have 8 gigs of RAM, and had a showcase for the reveal designed around 4.

I believe Sam's that he leaked true information with Lockhart. They ended up deciding it's simply not a viable product.

If they did drop it then they made a smart move, but what a waste of time and resources. That probably cut a big chunk of their budget if they did end up dropping Lockhart.

The illusions of an MS "Come back" next-gen are looking less and less likely, as reality sets in.

MS lost to Sony at an E3 they didn't attend, what exactly is stopping Sony from outplaying them on the hardware front? Absolutely nothing, especially if MS miscalculated Sony's strategy.

Generally speaking if they planned two SKUs, and one had to be canned, they are having problems and it's time to temper expectations.

Well the whole point of next-gen is... next-gen hardware. They obviously wanted to score the cheapest next-gen console, and the most powerful one at the same time. Miscalulated something, somewhere that could lead to a viable product in both SKUs.

Relying on the Halo effect. Where people ignore that you have the weakest box if you also have the strongest. But looks like they fucked up, to no one's surprise after this E3. Before they had the hardware hype momentum, and "everyone" knew they'd win Anaconda.

Well people went from expecting MS to have a guaranteed hardware win, to PS5 potentially winning. What happened to their magical hardware team that was supposed to run circles around Cerny?
