Playstation Tablet 1,729
Multiplat studios At first, though, Schafer had concerns about his studio's identity shifting or that this move would result in less creative freedom. "I was very concerned about our culture and identity," Schafer says. "They explained the new way they're doing these acquisitions with unplugged studios that are not integrated into Microsoft. They're left alone, they do their own thing and stay independent, but are well funded. It sounds like a good deal."
DynamiteCop 2,087
No, they're making Xbox/PC games and beyond that Microsoft is not meddling in their development. This echos exactly what Ninja Theory said.
102020393023445948594 2,223
Fact: Obsidian is contractually obligated to deliver Outer Worlds to all platforms, AND if that game is successful, they're auto-locked into delivering a sequel which will again be multiplat. realistically, Obsidian is locked on multiplats for the next 5-7 years. Double Fine is locked into shipping psychonauts 2 for PS4 and another un-announced game for PS4 as well. ANy MS exclusives will be 5 years out. Phil is knowingly going out and buying AA multiplatform studios locked into contracts for the foreseeable future. Why is that? Does he just need gamepass fodder, or does he need MULTIPLATFORM GAMEPASS FODDER ? And why does he need multiplatform gamepass fodder? MS = 3rd party in the next 3 years just like Colin Moriarty and I have predicted. Edited June 25, 2019 by Bodycount N
jehurey 3,238
You have to look at it from Tim Schafer's point of view. His company has had to get by these past 10 years by getting money from kickstarter and then they moved onto that other crowdfunding platform for specific games, Fig. He's probably tired of scraping by, and Phil Spencer is a steady paycheck. He kind of reminds me of David Jaffe at this point where they basically don't even want to develop AAA production games, and are putting out small stuff that doesn't look all that good.
