NFL without helmets

probably will result in more shoulder injuries, because they don't have shoulder pads.

 

But less head injuries.

 

Troy Aikman has said before that they should go back to something like thin leather helmets and no face protection, and head injuries would go down. I believe that.

There were several deaths before they introduced helmets

Nope, post retirement brain trauma is a massive issue across rugby codes and those athletes spend a lifetimes building up knowledge of self protection and technique for padless contact. They generally only have contact from within a 10 meter or less distance as well, and are rarely blind sided like in NFL

 

Removing pads and helmets in NFL would be a disaster
