WindowsCentral: The 'Xbox Maverick' console will be named 'Xbox One S All-Digital Edition,' preorders in April 2019

Recommended Posts

This is a huge red fucking flag. :danylol:

First detailed by Brad Sams, Microsoft has been experimenting with a discless Xbox One S console codenamed Xbox Maverick, with a launch window thought to be around Q1 2019. According to our sources, we now know a little bit more about the timing and marketing name of this intriguing new console.
Microsoft is reportedly set to call the discless Maverick console the "Xbox One S All-Digital Edition," with preorders aiming for mid-April 2019, and with general availability coming in early May 2019. It looks as though it could be near-global simultaneous launch for almost all existing Xbox markets.
The discless Xbox One S would be a first for the company, offering fans the ability to ditch discs altogether and go all-in on digital game licenses. As Microsoft pushes for greater access to its game library via things like the Xbox Game Pass digital subscription and the incoming streaming service Project xCloud, dropping the disc drive from the "All-Digital Edition" should make it the cheapest Xbox console yet, although we have no word on pricing just yet, or whether the console will see any design refinements beyond simply dropping the disc drive

This thing we all knew was coming for months and months is a huge red flag.. Every time you post this dumb shit you act like you're shocked :mj:

Yeah except it's been confirmed and according to Brad Sams it a test run for their next-gen system approach. :ccruise:

Yeah, it's a test run to see if people actually buy a digital only console or not so they know if they should offer one or not next-gen, not to see if they eliminate disc drives entirely you retard. Thinking they're going to go into the next generation where physical media is still at the forefront and forego an optical drive entirely is just moron logic.

Even with your retarded logic next-gen for MS being discless is a real possibility. Its just a fact.

Is that why the person that leaked all this said if the test run has no backlash, expect them to skip discs. Are you dense or something.

Dense, not dense, it's not a lack of understanding for what's been said, it's so unconscionably stupid to think this would actually happen you'd have to be an idiot to even bring it up which comes to back who creates these threads... You...

Hmm Brad Sams or Dynamite... who to trust. If lockhart is discless they aren't doing discs for the other 20% that in your theory will own Anaconda, it just won't happen period.

You are such a moron to believe this would actually happen, they're trying to unify their community and platforms, and grow it while providing options; not drive people away. This was in concept and will be an option for next-gen if it in fact happens, not a forced adoption process.

Please explain who the fuck will make discs if the majority of people are using a discless lockhart? They're going to stock freesbies for a small minority of XBox owners? There is literally zero reason to make discs if the a digital cheaper console even gets 50% of the marketshare, it will be greater just based on price alone. Let's go Pro which is 20%. Who the fuck will stock discs for 20% of the people, what sane retailer will even do that.

Lockhart won't be discless you moron, they'll offer a discless variation of it. Also next-gen the cheaper system won't be the baseline of adoption, the more expensive system will be. At the start of a generation people are willing to spend the money to get a new high end console, they've already got $400 - $500 allocated and ready to go, this isn't a base versus X situation where the powerful system released much later and was the secondary.

Lockhart will be a more affordable option for people who don't have the money to adopt the base system, which will be Anaconda.

Listen to Brad Sams he assumes Lockhart will be discless, and there is nothing to suggest multiple digital and disc seperate models for either Lockhart or Anaconda. Its like you got your retard hat on pretending this isn't a real possibility.

Consider the possibility at least? Like everyone brags about digital attach ratio, MS first party is ALL on gamepass were they want you to sub. Discless is a way to lower price through higher digital % monetization from game sales by passing retailers.

It's an evolution of the 2013 plan but with a sugar pill, and a userbase thats willing to accept this. Its not guaranteed, obviously making such a clai would be stupid at this point because we haven't seen a response to Maverick. But like Brad said it's their test run and canery in the coal mine, and those plans at such an early stage are obviously adjustable.

MS is weakest in markets where physical is strongest.

Just because Xbox has stronger digital adoption than the other platforms on the market doesn't mean they up and ditch optical media. It's still the main aspect of their install base. They lose the people who want an entertainment system and 4K video, and they lose the people who still want physical media, that's like 30 million people existing on their platform just gone in an instant. To add this they could come out of the gate swinging against Sony, they could have something better going on akin to the 360 where they scalp PlayStation gamers, again this destroys any possibility of that taking place.

I won't even consider it as a possibility because it's not. Then they lose the goodwill and entire point of their whole backward compatibility system, this thing they've been building up for years and is now like 600 games strong, nope... gone. Use your head man...

They're doing a trade in progam for Maverick. If they can knock of say $50, possibly more on price through digital store monetization its not unreasonable that they feel the trade off would be worth it. Its a fact that a digital only console will bring more profit.

We need maverick NPD data to make sense of it all, we'll have it in a course study by the holiday seasons. I think that period will be a key deciding factor.
