Yes it's very different, there is a reason why only MS is going to do this. Because of they don't care about hardware sales its not their bread and butter, and they have a  very different audience from Sony/Nintendo they have a ridiculous digital adoptation rate, and all their first party is on gamepass, and XBox basically doesnt exist outside of the US more or less. Its exactly the type of logic MS would use, its on PC, so we can do it. Its a strategy of a company aiming for MAUs, services, not a company that depends on hardware sales as their bloodline like Sony and Nintendo.

 

So yes they can do it. The other two can't. Take it or leave it, its a fact. If you like that's fine, you're the target audience, but they aren't aiming outside a fairly niche userbase next-gen anyways. There goal is not to sell 100+ million consoles.

If they skip the disc part next-gen, they'll bundle Game Pass out the ass to push their service agenda. Especially if they decide to merge Live and Game Pass into one,

Their first party software sales a year are fairly pathetic, they would gain way more money if people sub to $120 a year even if there is a game pass discount. I remember reading that outside of Gears/Halo/Forza season they can see as little as less than $10 a year from each XBox owner. 

It makes perfect sense from a profit perspective. Nevermind service growth. Plus I'm already seeing their target audience on forums defend this with the Maverick, on the 15+ page Resetera no one is literally even complaing in or is opposition.They I'll get it cheap/cheaper just for game pass. Which is exactly the business pitch they want. 

Is discless guaranteed? No. Is it seriously being considered on the table? Fuck yes. Everyone even here thats XBox centric will cave in, even Dynamite. People that were never interested in XBox still don't give a shit, and the XBox audience will take it no question going by the forums. If Sony was considering this for next-gen there would be a shitstorm with a huge part of their audience, for MS thats not the case.

Remember that rumor that in 2019, there wasn't going to be a full sequel to Forza Motorsport, that it was going to be this enhanced version of Forza 7?

 

If that's true, then Microsoft would probably not release that on retail disc, it would be an all-digital add-on.

 

Now that we've gotten some hard confirmation that Microsoft is pushing all-digital, that Forza rumor now has much more credibility.

 

Microsoft is pretty much wrapping up this gen.

That wasn't a rumor and you're completely bastardizing what they actually said. They said Forza 8 was not currently in development and that they were instead focusing on improving Forza 7 and adding to it. That has absolutely nothing to do with digital anything, it's not some new release, it's the same game they've just been updating it...

What is there to admit to? Turn 10 said this, they're continuing to update and improve 7 and have not begun development on Forza 8.
