Windows Central: Xbox Gamertags may take on a more 'Discord-like' format soon, statistics from other platforms (PS4, NSW)

Recommended Posts

Xbox Gamertags are moving to a format more familiar to users of Battle.net and Discord, allowing you to use any name you wish, even duplicates (...) with a hash number at the end.

Xbox Live profiles are also getting an overhaul. (...) complete with your activity feed, and the ability to include statistics from other platforms, including PlayStation, Nintendo, and PC games.

Thank god, being locked into one name sucks. I change my Steam name like dozens of times a year, should be the same on every platform.

Your account name shouldn't equate to your username.

3rd party confirmed, again.

You're so dumb, how do you not see that they're trying to get everything integrated into THEM, and not the other way around.

@Remij_ Talk some sense into this dumbo.

You talk about people being blind and not seeing the streaming future, yet you can't see MS's vision and strategy is completely different. The old XBox and Microsoft you know is dead.

I suspect behind the scenes Sony is moving PSN to Azure and MS is working behind the scenes to make them more compatible with each other. Specifically Live with PSN, and Nintendo online.

If they're moving over to Azure they will be on the same network, it sounds like PSN and Nintendo Network might be integrating into Live. Maybe not the service but as you said the network itself for multiplayer and crossplay compatibility, speed, reliance, uptime etc.

This is a clear indication that Microsoft is trying to drive everyone into their arms, into their software, into their network and ecosystem.

They're not going third party, they're attempting to turn the other platforms ecosystems into their own.

Microsoft is literally bending over backwards to try and give the competitors the only thing that they do well.

That's all fine and dandy..............but we're not paying money for it.

It'd be great if Microsoft just adds gamer achievements for Nintendo games, they'd cheapen the entire system overnight.

The great part is going to see lemmings try to peddle the narrative that Nintendo and Sony CAME TO Microsoft to beg for this.:drake:

Or "Hehehe.....clever Microsoft.......they're sneaking in underneath their noses and SOON, they're take over!!!"

They're doing this for the same reason they are doing the Garrison program that will merge your MS purchases across multiple PC stores.

Yeah, because no matter where you do something they want it coming back to and through them.
