Microsoft Flight Simulator preview video from test event

They just recently had some people go and take the sim out for a spin and basically went over a lot of the technical side to the game.  Things like all the physics they are doing, all the visuals and how it's utilizing Azure and Bing satellite data with AI to build 3d models for the terrain.

First, some points... this thing accurately simulates everything.  Wind pressures, how it affects every inch of the planes, differing pressures flying over hills and atmospheric pressures.. all that shit.  Wind current and drafts.. as well as obviously all the data for the planes and how they actually react.  One guy who was testing the game said that everything performed exactly as it would in real life.  He said it was amazing how he purposefully tested how the planes would stall and could confirm that they behaved exactly as they would irl.

They went in on details on their lighting engine.  How things like the volumetric clouds have like 36 different layers to them.  The engine renders geometry more than 600 kilometers out at maximum height and draw distance.  They have not only a day and night cycle... but a full yearly cycle.  Meaning the positioning of the sun and weather is completely different throughout the year/seasons.

The ENTIRE WORLD is here.  It's a complete map of the world.  There's 3 different levels to their satellite streaming data.  You can play offline as well.  The game will result back to a lower complexity, or will cache higher quality assets.. but for the best experience you need to be online.. though requirements haven't been set yet for the highest end experience.

You can literally find your house with this and fly around it.  Their AI model takes the satellite data and generates 3d geometry for all the buildings, trees and everything.  It also generates vehicles on the roadways, which enhances the realism.  There's petabytes of detail here, and it's all streamed in glorious detail from the cloud.

The game has been in development for 4-5 years now.. so this didn't just come out of nowhere.  Also a fun fact... it's being developed by Asobo Studios... who just recently released A Plague's Tale.

Here's a video with some footage.  Incredible stuff.

And this folks is Microsoft actually using the cloud for shared rendering which they have patented by the way.

RIP Sony

RIP Sony

because they have real exclusive games people want and they buy their consoles because they want to play the damned fucking games but oh no xbox has..... this garbage

It's going to be fucking cool to see how this stuff is used next gen.

It's not only using the cloud to stream in data.. but also how AI and machine learning will transform the development of games.

This game/sim features THE ENTIRE WORLD in this fidelity.

Presumably for a Forza Horizon game, they could use the cloud to build an exact replica of a city and surrounding area, then use AI to build 3d meshes of everything, and then go in and hand tune and tweak things to their liking.  Not to mention when connected they could have high amounts of server controller AI vehicles and pedestrians populating the area and doing all sorts of things.  We could get extremely accurate renditions of anywhere in the world.  The other thing, is the more these services improve.. such as modeling and mapping of the entire planet, the more realistic it's going to get.

Cloud, AI, and Machine learning are going to completely transform games this coming generation.

Yeah, for one platform :kaz:

Nah.. let's not start that shit.  All platforms will utilize them.  AI and machine learning will be used in every facet of game design.  From creating textures to models, to optimizing code and physics.  This shit is going to be built and fully integrated into the tools that developers will use to make games.

I'm talking about split rendering, Microsoft patented it.

You really know very little about patents.

You're saying the equivalent of 'Nintendo patented the D-Pad' so now no one else is ever going to be able to use an up, down, left, right button :D

Yeah a patent is about an exact WAY of doing something. The same result will be achieved with minor changes that don't infringe patents. How the hell do you think everything exists lol

IGN seems to think the game is going to support RTX at some point.

I think they may have their info confused.. but it would be pretty amazing with this game.

They're probably just retarded, most of the rendering isn't even happening locally.

Yea.  I think they got mixed up.

But that said.. the devs did do multiple interviews and we're very likely asked about it.. since the game has such a focus on photo-realism.

What I think likely happened, is that they were asked if the game would support RTX... (RTX being synonymous with Ray Tracing at this point) and the devs probably said they are thinking about implementing it down the line... "it" meaning RT support in general (probably a cloud based solution which would be computed server side and not RTX specifically) and then they go and say "RTX support planned for the future" or some shit.

That's my guess.  But who knows?
