So, what was went on for you the past 10yrs?

Recommended Posts

Time fuckin flies, and I've been in nostalgic mode(pretty sure you've noticed my threads). I guess Im trying to reflect on what went on, and how me and everyone else around me changed...

2009 I moved back to L.A., Shit was rough because it was during the recession and I had trouble finding a good job, so I  ended up going to work at a Home Depot for a minute while going to college.

I was mainly going for animation but also took a film class. I met some students who knew about a studio in NoHo(north hollywood). They took me to this old building that had a bunch of recording studios.

From there I ended up running with a ragtag team of artists/producers. A bunch of young folk trying to blow up. One thing it made me realize, the music industry is cutthroat and fucking dangerous(this happened a year after we moved a new building. For a time, it seemed like we ruled L.A. since people knew about our music and people were hitting me up left/right for graphics work and camera work.

Eventually I quit home depot, my professor got me a job at an autoparts company that had a studio. So I'm a 3D design specialist now. Doing some animation/programming work for some oldheads. It pays so much better, and it signified a transition.

But all that was in a span of 10 yrs. I came back to visit the studio. Technically I'm still a member of the team, but I'm the last one left. My freind runs it more like a company. We're no longer a team of young folks trying to make a name. We sort of did. But the cost was the team, and the family feel. The old red room was our home, and I remember crashing there for the night, just to make beats or do some graphics. A friend lived and worked there.

It's surreal how much it all changed. My only fear now is settling. The current job is great but I don't really want the rest of my life to be in corporate job. So fuckin soulless...

I’m doing well right now. Should hopefully be interviewing for a salaried position with great room for career growth with a top company.

No - I'll open up deliriously. I'll write children's books about coons and Kokujin being this stinky evil person. I'll make so much money and give you a job picking cotton on my farm. Jimbo Fearn.

I'll commiserate for Kokujin.

lets see, got a degree in 2D animation, managed to live for some time in UK/Japan/US/Canada but in the end ended up in Estonia. Corp. jobs and freelance stuff turned out boring as hell, so I quit and had to spend years building my own brand on YT. My OCD got out of control at one point when I couldnt handle the pressure, and looking back I dont recommend the 'one man studio' lifestyle to anyone who isnt used to anxiety living online and isolation. But over that path I learned way more than I ever did in the university. Also, Ive met countless talented people who have made my career possible ( GD being one of them :heatrt:)
