Thats just silly, who the hell is going to be able to run games at that frame-rate.

It's a 1080p monitor.. and games like CS:GO and others already run at 500fps or so.  Esports players don't run games on anything but like low and medium settings if they have the opportunity, so 200-300fps is normal.

Yeah thats thing, they're making this for a market thats so small it hardly seems worth it.

Most people can't even discern the difference between 120hz to 144hz. Seems like a wasted effort.

144hz is basically the standard now.  I think there's JUST enough of a difference between it and 240hz that it would serve both markets well enough.  Surely there's other improvements and things they could be focusing their efforts on instead of just higher refresh rates.  144-240 is also a reasonable performance target to hit in many games when playing games competitively.

144hz serves the general consumer very well already, and 240 serves the competitive very well.  I think past 240hz you're just seeing a placebo effect if anything at all.  There's no way to accurately asses that someone has a real advantage, or plays better at that refresh-rate because's so many other variables which would affect the results.. like server ping and tick rates.

We need lower prices now.. that's what we need.

In other news Nvidia also apparently has a "CES GameReady Driver" possibly coming tomorrow.  Which has support for new features such as "VRSS" which is Variable Rate Super Sampling, and new Filter updates, and presumably performance optimizations for various games.  "Max FPS" could also be a driver level framerate limiter.. similar to what AMD has.
