PSN earned more than the entire division of Xbox and Nintendo's annual revenue in 2019

How is this possible when Nintendo is selling a giant amount of Switch and games? Crazy lol..

Because Sony has already sold 2x as much hardware and they charge more for PSN, and their games sell crazy amounts too

Makes sense. But still crazy that PSN alone generated more money than Nintendo in a year where Switch is on fire and this gen is dying.

At this point Sony doesn't have to do much to beat Nintendo's numbers.  Sales predictably drop off, but there's more consumers than ever with PS4s buying games and spending that moolah.

PlayStation Network is massive. The service trounces Xbox Live and Nintendo Online. It's also cheaper than Xbox's competing services and more accessible than ever through PlayStation Now for $9.99/mo or $59.99/yr.

Because ppl underestimate the power of 3rd party games. Sony getting 30% of every giant 3rd party release that all sell most on PS4. 30% from games like GTAV, RDR2, every yearly COD, FIFA, MADDEN, etc would all make more than nintendo selling millions of their exclusives. Even more so considering Sony have zero expenses involved in creating those games. At most some marketing deals.

It's quite simple..... a much larger userbase to sell too.... PlayStation has over a 105 million userbase, Switch just passed 52 Million and Xbox1 is slightly below that.

Combined Switch + Xbox1 = PS4 total userbase.

The revenue generated does not only count sales from the new customers in that one year.... it counts sales from the entire userbase spent that year.

In Switch's case that fine.... PSN should generate more because Switch hasn't even been out for three years as yet and is already over 50 million.

Xbox1 on the other hand has been out the same time as PS4 and twice as long as Switch but it has fallen behind Switch.

In summary... Xbox1 :drake:

Yup this illustrates what I just said.   Switch userbase just surpassed Xbox1 (more people to sell products and services too = more revenue).   And PS4 is roughly equal to Switch + Xbox1 give or take a few percentage points (PS4's user base is about the same percentage on that chart compared to Switch and Xbox1)

Oh this wasn't a reply to what you said or anything. Just saw it on the era thread and found it interesting. But yeah, lol Xbox

Another incredible statistic:

Retail is now the lowest contributing factor to Sony's revenue..........even less than PSVR and Accessories. Crazy. Retail is dead.

It deserves nothing less.  Ever since they did away with quality packaging, and with the advent of releasing unfinished or buggy games and patching later... retail isn't worth the trouble anymore.  They can lock you out of your games just as easily as they could with digital games.

What happened to retail games is so sad imo.  Remember big box PC games, and long boxes?  Nice 8bit/16bit boxes with full color manuals inside and beautiful artwork...

If that was the norm still, I'd be physical all the way... but these days you get nothing but a case which barely protects the disc and a black and white slip telling you to view a web manual... lmao fuck off.

Digital all the way.  Preload, released right on time... no bullshit.  All in one convenient location. B)
