Outer Worlds has sold over 2 million

Recommended Posts

We’re delaying @OuterWorlds on Nintendo Switch due to the coronavirus impacting the Virtuos team working on the port, to provide them enough time to finish development. We’ll now be releasing the physical version on cartridge. Once we have a new launch date, we’ll let you know!

Was this on PC game pass?

Does this mean it sold close to a million on PS4?

It probably sold the majority of its two million on PS4.

This was also being reported from the Publisher.

The Outer Worlds Sells 2 Million Units, As Take-Two Questions The Subscription Model

2 million sales and counting.

On the subject of subscription services like Xbox Game Pass, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick said it's an ongoing conversation at the company regarding how much the company will support programs like Xbox Game Pass and others. He said that, as a general rule, Take-Two simply wants to release games where the consumer is, and that could include subscription libraries.

At the same time, Zelnick said subscription services might be better suited for older titles as a way to give them a second lease on life. "We think subscription offerings are probably better suited to catalog but we're willing to take experimental chances when it makes sense. It's early days for all these platforms," he said.

This guy sounds like he thinks they should've sold more $60 copies of the game because the demand would've been there, but it got deflated because it was on GamePass.

It wouldn't matter if the game remained popular and hyped for a long period of time. But alot of people discovered about 20-30 hours into the game that its simply not that great of a game, and in fact a little underwhelming.

It's not up on Steam. So PS4 obviously lead the lionshare of the sales

I think Take Two is realizing that if they truly capitalized on the hype of the game, that PC fanboys were eagerly excited to see Obsidian make a Fallout clone, they would've sold probably more than 3 million units, probably close to 4 million.

Instead, all of those PC owners have WIndows 10 and would have the WIndows Store, and GamePass on PC was running a $1 promotion and it had Outer Worlds on it. What do you think happened?

Take Two lost out on alot of full-priced $60 purchases.

This fits with the news that Microsoft saw GamePass subscription accounts DOUBLE during that same exact time (Q4 2019). My speculation was that it was alot of PC owners registering their GamePass account on WIndows 10, paying a buck so that they could pretty much rent Outer Worlds for 30 days.

And that's probably what happened. Now, everybody knows that the game is actually kind of weak, the areas in the game aren't very good, and it doesn't have alot of content or quests like a Fallout single-player game. So the hype has died down.

Which might be bad news for the Switch version. Who knows.
